We’ll just have to see...Pres Erdogan is a shrewd and skilled politician, but I don’t believe this is a function of Erdogan/AKP. There are structural reasons for the fallout between the two countries.

That is correct. Timing of tariffs was poor, but the overall policy is a welcome change. I have been advocating a tough position on the government of #Turkey for a while. foreign.senate.gov/hearings/prior… cc @heissenstat

1) Pres Trump actually played right into Pres Erdogan’s hand making it easier to sell the it’s the US fault narrative, and 2) the US has an interest in a healthy Turkish economy even if Ankara’s geostrategic importance to Washington has waned. #Turkey
