The banks must be right bastards for lending money to naive optimists so. They can smell land. It's like the 70s all over again.

But bad as things are, think what it would be if we didn't have that Chinese outlet. We are over-supplying since quotas ended. We have undercut ourselves as well.

Yes that is a trend across the world. The big businesses want to take over farming for themselves. They can hire a bunch of lads from wherever to milk cows, put a farm manager in charge and control their own supply. Farmers are fighting for their lives.

Yes fair enough. Hard to see a business model justification for six-figure investments at that rate. Why do they do it?

Yes, in mitigation of my comment above, this is also true. But dairy prices have been one of the few reliables in recent years, ironically because China dumped much of its NZ dairy imports due to botulism, a disease associated with intensification.

Yes but it's not just to keep their heads above water is it? How much is enough? IMO the big dairy expansion, farmers milking hundreds of cows, is driven by greed. Know them by their lack of ditches. Best dairy units I worked were under 120 cows. Bigger herds = bigger problems.

Yes I know that Roger, I was just surprised that you would have planned such a short-term storage, or so it seemed from your tweet. But it's not necessarily short-term then, intended for Winter but available for whenever? I have you, thanks.

Perhaps I am projecting, it would be hell to me. I grew up on a dairy farm and if you did that to any of our cows there'd be war. I guess they're born to it so they know no better. Still it's not right to me. We always let them pick the herbs from the ditches, kept em healthy.

"Clueless troll" is it? So you think she imagined being depressed by another week of Ireland's Farmers running intensive indoor systems? I was a bit depressed about it myself you know, esp. when I saw Roger plastic-wrapping grass for 3-4 weeks storage.

No outdoors, no lazing in the sunshine, no scratching on a branch, no nibbling in a hedgerow... just shouty ads and crappy music 24/7. Sounds like you've made their hell complete.

We are living through an extinctions crisis to which intensive agriculture contributes enormously without acknowledging its responsibility. Your practices & blithe comments invite people to go vegan. Margaret actually offers the only viable alternative.

It's irrelevant who is to blame. Your repulsive views cannot be justified on any ground. If murder is the only solution you can come up with then you are a pitiful excuse for a problem solver. The Israeli blockade is what I was referring to.

People forced to endure hardship turn to extremists for leadership. If the people of Gaza were trusted to trade and live without interference from their powerful neighbours, the region would soon enjoy peace. But that seems unlikely.

One of these world class athletes was injected for years with growth hormones that boosted their athletic performance and is regarded as a "natural genius", the other is forced to take medically unnecessary hormone reducing drugs to make them "natural" because they are too good🤔

That's a fairly extreme opinion in any context. You cannot justify murdering people without trial, on suspicion they are members of an organisation. You don't even know if they have the freedom not to join. Gaza is after all an open prison. People there don't live normal lives.

She's , a spokesperson not a minister, but it's still a monstrous admission from a professional speaker.
