German Research Information Breakfast at Congress 2016 - Tuesday, May 31st from 8:00 to 10:00 am
DAAD together with DFG - German Research Foundation and the University of Calgary are pleased to present the German Research Information Breakfast at Congress 2016 in Calgary on Tuesday, May 31st from 8:00 to 10:00 am in the Atrium, Energy Environment Experiential Learning (EEEL) Building. This information session will provide faculty, postdocs and PhD students with an overview of Germany's vibrant research landscape, useful tools for identifying potential collaborators and details on funding opportunities open to Canadian scholars through DFG (German Research Foundation), DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and their partner organizations. Dr. Alexandra Gerstner, Director of the DAAD Information Centre Toronto, will be on the campus of Wilfrid Laurier University to give a faculty information session on Wednesday, February 24th. Study & Research in Germany Fair, University of British Columbia: Thursday, October 22nd
DAAD Information Centre Toronto will be on the main campus of the University of British Columbia on Thursday, October 22nd from 2:00 to 4:30 pm for a Study & Research in Germany Fair. This fair will take place in the Multipurpose Room of the Michael Smith Laboratories building (2185 The East Mall) and will feature representatives from DAAD and more than ten of Germany's leading universities of science and technology. From 2:00 to 3:00 pm, an information session for students will run in the Michael Smith Laboratories Auditorium. This session will include details on the DAAD's student-oriented support programs and on opportunities in Germany open to UBC students through the university's Go Global Office. A faculty information session will take place in the MSL Auditorium from 3:00 to 4:00 pm and provide an overview of the German research landscape as well as DAAD programs to facilitate faculty and postdoc research stays and the development of collaborative projects with German colleagues. DAAD will be presenting a information session for students on Friday, September 25th from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at the Goethe-Institut Montreal (1626 Boulevard St-Laurent (Metro Saint-Laurent). At this session, the DAAD will provide details on the its suite of scholarship and grant programs as well as on the pursuit of degree studies in Germany, while representatives of the Goethe Institut will highlight the German language courses and testing they have on offer. DAAD Alumni Conference in TorontoThe DAAD Information Centre Toronto was pleased to host a conference for alumni of both the DAAD and our partner organization the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation on May 1-2, 2015 in Toronto. The theme of this meeting was "Multiculturalism and Migration in Germany and Canada" and featured presentations by Canadian and German scholars on the conference theme from a number of disciplinary perspectives. DAAD Information Centre at Congress The DAAD's Toronto Information Centre is pleased to announce that it will be present at the Congress of the Social Sciences and the Humanities taking place at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario at the end of May. The DAAD will be present at the Congress Expo from Saturday, May 24th through Tuesday, May 27th to provide Congress participants with information on the DAAD's suite of grant programs for faculty, postdocs and students along with general information on research in Germany.

Students enrolled in full-time undergraduate or graduate degree programs at a college or university in Canada or the United States are invited to submit entries to the DAAD's annual student contest. This year's theme is a Poetry Jam and winners will receive some great prizes!
CONTEST PRIZES are as follows:
· 1st Prize - Round Trip to Germany
· 2nd Prize - A Camcorder
· 3rd Prize - One year subscription to Granta Magazine
Participation is both easy and fun! Simply create a video (maximum one minute long) of yourself stating why you'd value the opportunity to study in Germany. The content of the jam may be in English or German or a comprehensible combination of both.

DAAD Young Ambassadors Program Now Accepting Applications DAAD North America is now accepting applications from undergraduate students interested in becoming a DAAD Young Ambassador. DAAD Young Ambassadors are undergraduate students from North America who have recently studied or interned in Germany and are interested in promoting study in Germany at their home institutions. DAAD has about 30 spots available for students from all over the US and Canada to share with their peers what makes Germany such a unique and attractive destination for study abroad. DAAD Young Ambassadors are responsible for organizing at least one event per semester on their campuses to promote study in Germany. Additionally, they will collaborate with their universities' study abroad offices and other German institutions in their areas to inform their fellow students on educational and research opportunities in Germany. DAAD Young Ambassadors are also available for email inquiries about their respective German host universities, study abroad programs or about life as a student in Germany in general. The application deadline is May 18, 2014.

The DAAD's Young Ambassador at Toronto's York University, Ashley Gyarmati, has put together an information session on the upside of studying in Germany that will take place on York's Keele campus on Friday, March 7th from 11:15 am to noon in the Accolade East Building, Studio A.

The DAAD has partnered with the Leibniz Institutes to offer a Research Fellowship to highly-qualified international post-docs interested in conducting a research project at one of the eighty-six Leibniz Institutes in Germany. The Toronto Information Centre will be at the Université de Montréal's Centre canadien d'études allemandes et européenes (CCEAE) for two information sessions on Thursday, February 27th in CCEAE's office at 3744 Jean-Brillant, 5e étage, salle Lothar-Baier (525-6). A session from 1:30 to 2:30 pm will provide information on the DAAD's support programs for both undergraduate and graduate students. From 3:00 to 4:00 pm, the session "Research in Germany" is intended to provide faculty and postdocs with an overview of the German research landscape as well as some details of funding opportunities offered by both the DAAD and its partner organizations. _____________________________________________________ DAAD Information Sessions at Concordia University, Montreal - Friday, February 28th
The DAAD will be presenting two information sessions at Concordia University in Montréal on the afternoon of Friday, February 28th. The first session will be geared towards undergraduate and graduate students and will run from 1:00 to 2:00 pm in Room X-103, Annex X, Mackay 2080. This session will give an overview to the topic of study in Germany and provide details on the DAAD’s suite of student-oriented scholarship and grant programs. A second session for faculty with the title "Research in Germany" will take place later Friday afternoon running from 2:30 to 3:30 pm in room 2.139 in the Engineering and Visual Arts Building on Concordia's Williams (downtown) campus. The Montreal fair will take place on Saturday, March 1, 2014 from 1:00 to 5:00 pm in the Montreal Convention Centre (Room F-511, top floor, 1001 Place Jean-Paul-Riopelle). In Toronto the fair runs Sunday, March 2, 2014 from 1:00 to 6:00 pm in the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (Constitution Halls 105-106, North Building, 255 Front Street West). John Paul Kleiner from the Toronto Information Centre will be at the University of Regina on Tuesday, January 21st to give three information sessions on the DAAD's scholarship and grant programs for students and faculty. A more general student session will take place from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm in Room 408 of the Classroom Building. This presentation will give details on scholarships and grants available to both undergraduate and graduate students of all disciplines and fields of study. The faculty session entitled "Research in Germany" will run from 1:30 to 2:30 pm in Room 408 of the Classroom Building.
