Movie Quote Of The Day
Quote: People always look down their noses at hookers. Never give you a chance, because they think you took the easy way out, when no one could imagine the willpower it took to do what we do. Walking the streets, night after night, taking the hits and still getting back up.

A lot of us here in the States have seen this coming for a while now. They are now creating a "super army" for the EU to quell the dissidents. Merkel is going for a 4th term.
Europe is going to pay the price for supporting a failed EU. If you support the EU then you are voluntarily giving up your freedom to do anything. Just move to China now, and get it over with.

Well there is a woman who has successfully led her people and won their respect over many years, saying that she doesn't think it's a good idea to allow people to make money from telling lies on the Internet masquerading as news. Gee whizz, what a revolutionary notion. It's basically suing people under the libel laws, but on behalf of the public at large. I'll start worrying if they go after the public press.
OTOH, you have a president coming in who has been shown to tell lies roughly 70-75% of all the time he's talking to the press who he professes are so corrupt. And has said he wants to "open up" the libel laws. What does he mean by that exactly? He is already the most litigious man ever to be voted into office.
This "shadow press" purports to be the "secret truth", the real news, but it's not. It's gutter sensationalism. The problem is that mainstream media, with the possible exception of the BBC, has gone so far down that road that peple are used to hearing sensationalist BS and just accepting it. It all needs a reset. Something like a cap on the profits of a news organization, I know, anticapitalist but it might encourage them to report on, and meaningfully and truthfully analyze news instead of spouting crap all day which is calculated to appeal to their target audience.

Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to the other side.
You know what, I have a confession to make. There was no road, and no chicken. I fabricated them to form what used to be known as a "joke", but now I realise I was simply telling lies on the internet masquerading as news. I really hope Merkel brings an end to people writing satire and telling jokes...some people lack the intelligence to know when something is satire and when something is the truth so it should all be banned!

Fair point on both counts. But some of the stuff that came across my Facebook feed was pure evil. I had to go to snopes to cm check them out. I also think it's basically a totally dishonorable way to spend your time. Intentional satire is one thing. Targeted click bait and disinformation is quite something else.

What propaganda outlet put that thought into your obviously befuddled mind.
I truly hope she'd just fade away.

If you're worried about press freedom, that's really a moot point since it never existed in the first place.

A good thing; press-anarchy where everybody can submit news without verification or accountability (like some famous online books) results more in disinformation.

The problem is that distinguishing between "freedom of the press" and "anarchy of the press" requires that some higher authority (a government) determine which is which. I believe this to be a cure worse than the disease.
Where news - both good and bad - is concerned, my primary filter is "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't". Cheap, and highly effective.

There used to be a time when the public used to judge the credibility of a news-outlet based on previous experience.
Since FB only links to stuff it finds without checking what it finds, it is no longer judged on what it serves.

Anyone who relies on Facebook or any other social media site for their news deserves what they get.
I try to read both left- and right-wing sources, in the hope of getting a more-or-less balanced picture. Most people don't want to make that great an effort.
