    Long story behind B2104 Ersham rd crossing. Basically resisted for years till we had visit from roads minister who said to Head of Transport "this road is awfully busy". Crossing was agreed the next week & built within 6 months!

    Out for the morning on (I led its development for in 1990s). Lots of people walking & cycling happily in the sun 😀. Tarmac surface (thanks ) not spoiling anyone's enjoyment of the countryside!

    In 1963 the Worboys Committee recommended diagonal bars through everything that was prohibited. The Ministry removed them. So here’s some familiar signs with unfamiliar red bars.

    Serious point to this story: why does it take up to *3 years* to remove clearly abandoned bikes? Even with notice of removal in 14 days (on 9 & 13 Feb), it took another *3 months* to do it - and they left 1!

    But the long story of Linea & Figaro ended today, their destination unknown. Apollo struggles on bereft & saddleless. How long will he survive? Will reunite him with his friends? Tune in next year for the end of the :-)

    Through the harsh winter of 2018 they struggled, being subjected to the indignity of being mistaken for a rubbish bin. While Linea & Apollo had apparently been reprieved (again), Figaro was not so lucky...

    Linea & Figaro grew close during the winter of 2017 but were feted never to touch, when Linea's wheel was turned by her new flame Apollo who was sentenced to removal in Feb 2018. Linea had survived, or had she...

    Condemned by in July 2016, she was reprieved by a kind passer-by who removed the warrant for her destruction. In early 2017 she was joined by her friend Figaro.

    On this sunny Friday I'm sad to announce the passing of our old friend Linea. She joined us in June 2015 & suffered a long illness, losing her saddle a year later. She gradually deteriorated in her old age, surrounded by rubbish.

    The Team London Bridge velomobile! We had a great session collecting public comments about cycling. Infra is not the only solution... so is cycle training, bike parking, affordable bikes, more cycle hire...

    Today in the Times Newspaper. Muslims Against Anti-Semitism sending out a clear message that those who seek to divide, or use terms to point fingers at Jewish communities, should be challenged and with vigour. Such hatred towards Muslims is intolerable as well.

    Council roles for 2018/19 were confirmed at the AGM last night. Cllr Dee Simson was elected as the Mayor of Brighton & Hove and Cllr Daniel Yates was confirmed as the new leader of the council

    Now off to to talk about cycling & gender equity. Here are a couple of slides from my talk showing why building routes only for commute trips would be problematic in equity terms:

    Annual commute trips per person (concentrated among men and under-60s)
    Annual 'escort education' trips per person, 2016: concentrated among women aged 30-49.

    Dominic Smith from TfGM says that in Greater Manchester the big untapped demand (ie high short car journeys) isn't the city centre, it's around the peripheral town centres
