Revolutionizing the way we send money overseas using Bugsnag
TransferWise is transforming the way we send money abroad with their transparent and cost efficient service. From the creators of Skype, and with investment from Sir Richard Branson, they’re changing the rules of the foreign exchange market.
Traditionally, sending money abroad has been an incredibly expensive experience, with banks charging fees to both sender and recipient. But with TransferWise, this is no longer the case. To date, they’ve saved their customers millions of dollars in hidden bank fees using a peer to peer model that can be up to 10 times cheaper than traditional foreign exchange.
The challenge of efficiently dealing with errors
Before using Bugsnag, TransferWise engineers had an entirely manual process for finding and prioritizing bugs. Their intricate system of sifting through emails and creating filters was taken care of by a team of engineers on a weekly rotation. They were assigned the tedious task of searching for new errors, and then trying to organize and prioritize them to be handled.
But this process was seriously lacking. In addition to being time consuming and unreliable, there was no clear bigger picture of what was going on in their application. With such a large development team, it also became difficult to have consistency in their process across teams.
Powering up with Bugsnag
This all changed with Bugsnag, which helped them entirely automate their error handling process. Their engineers now spend almost no time finding bugs—Bugsnag gives them all the answers they need to fix broken code and move on.
“Using Bugsnag has been epic,” said Peep Pullerits, Engineering Lead at TransferWise. “It’s saved us more than 25 engineering hours a week that we can now spend working on TransferWise.”
They no longer spend time manually organizing bugs because errors are already grouped in the dashboard, with occurrences numbered so they can easily determine what’s happening the most. Plus, contextual data for every error makes bug fixing faster and easier.
Bugsnag’s exceptionally simple integration impressed the TransferWise engineering team so they pushed to production after just one week of evaluating. “It’s an incredibly intuitive UI. All the small details add up to make it a really enjoyable experience,” said Pullerits.
Gaining insight into their application
Their engineering team also benefits from Bugsnag’s powerful insight that allows them to reliably triage issues. “We now know what’s happening the most frequently, so we can focus on that. Bugsnag has given us visibility into what’s happening in our product.”
The visibility they’ve gained also makes them confident in the quality of their software—a huge priority to them. Bugsnag’s workflow and prioritization tools make it simple to ensure someone is accountable to each problem, so they know they’re delivering a top-tier, error-free experience to their customers.
The significant amount of time they save, and the insight they’ve gained into their software’s quality using Bugsnag means they can focus on what TransferWise is known for: making foreign exchange transparent and honest by eliminating hidden fees.
