On this day, 19 Feb 1990 #NelsonMandela’s first South African #passport was issued

He was in his own country but undocumented. He burnt his ID which limited his movement and was denied a passport by children of migrants and settlers in #SouthAfrica.

Yet such are the injustices that our #African and other #migrants still face in Europe, Israel, Australia & USA. We will be free when every African on earth is free;
Free to move where ever she/he pleases to live her/his "American dream", whenever she/he pleases and be welcomed with respect inside the #Africancontinent and anywhere else in the world. We too are worthy of dignified lives, to be documented, to be counted and to be recognized as economical contributors.

Based on the needs of the #Africancountries, #China has provided development financing to help them build railways, highways, ports, bridges, airports, power grids, and information and communications infrastructure. China has also helped #Africa develop agriculture, and build agricultural technology demonstration centers, and sent agrotechnological experts to the continent to strengthen its food security.

China and Africa have jointly established industrial parks and economic and trade cooperation zones throughout the continent, which have helped develop Africa's manufacturing sector and promoted industrialization and economic diversification, creating many job opportunities for the African people, facilitating the transfer of technology to the African countries, and increasing their incomes.

The #ForumonChinaAfricaCooperation (FOCAC) is set to take place in Beijing on Monday and Tuesday (Sept 3rd and 4th) - 'an event of global significance, which Beijing awaits with feverish enthusiasm.' #China and #Africa are in a 'win-win situation,' and the cooperation will benefit all countries concerned, according to China's Foreign Minister #WangYi.

The growth in trade between China and Africa is actually impressive: According to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the volume of trade in 2000 stood at $10bn (€8.5bn). In the 17 years since, the figure has risen 20-fold to $200bn. In the meantime, Africa's trade with Europe and the United States has stagnated for years. In addition, the #Africancontinent has seen a sharp rise in Chinese direct investment.

#China has passed Europe and the United States as the biggest trading partner of most #Africancountries. Most run large deficits with Beijing, exporting minerals and buying Chinese manufactured goods. China's commercial presence in Africa has prompted complaints in some countries that the continent gets too little from the relationship. #Africa is a major target of Beijing's ' #BeltandRoad' initiative to build ports, highways and other trade-related infrastructure, but some critics in #Tanzania, #Kenya and other countries say they leave hosts with too much debt.

The #ForumonChinaAfricaCooperation, opening Monday (Sept 3), brings together leaders from China and more than 50 African countries. Dozens of African leaders have met with Chinese President #XiJinping ahead of the conference. The participants are looking for ways to 'advance common growth and development,' according to #SouthAfrica's foreign minister, Lindiwe Sisulu.
