This comes amid numerous reports on pro-Haftar outlets about “terrorists” in GNA ranks. To date, every one I’ve looked into has turned out false: they concern people who are long dead, in prison, are not the people in the pictures, or simply have nothing to do with extremists.

“Trump threw US policy on into chaos & created a money-making opportunity for K Street. “It’s kind of a crazy scenario,” says one lobbyist” In fact, DC lobbyists have been making a killing from Libya’s rival factions for years as FARA files show

A sad and important glimpse at the truth about our truth-telling industry. Good work doesn’t pay, and the often rude, humiliating interactions of some editors with freelancers would not be acceptable in any other context yet it’s ok in our industry. RIP Arnaud Dubus

There is a sense in the world that force can have its way without consequence if the killers and torturers represent a valuable enough asset to other stronger powers - in strategic, ideological, intelligence or economic terms. That is where we are with Sudan today. 8)

Latest shows how widespread airstrikes now are in the battle for control of Tripoli between the GNA and LNA. "To date, at least 156 civilian casualties, including 39 fatalities, have resulted from armed conflict since the start of the crisis."

Except this never happened. Haftar is indeed in Moscow but the level of his interlocutors from the government is Ministry deputies. Even his meeting with Defense Minister Shoigu has not been finalized yet

Our own Libya team tracked 156 locally reported airstrikes during April - and claims of between 37 and 65 civilians killed. The deaths were blamed on both GNA and LNA forces.

1/ My brief take for , alongside other Palestinian analysts, on why Europe's fixation on the 2-state paradigm has left its policy ten steps behind the facts on the ground. Special thanks to for facilitating this shared commentary. Some excerpts from my colleagues:

Central Sahel: less than halfway through 2019, total fatalities from violence attributed to jihadist groups & communal militia have surpassed the toll in all (full) years since 2012. 2019 tally is (so far) 2x,16x & 6x the 2018 level in Mali, Burkina Faso & Niger, respectively.

Do you remember A'ed Abu-Amro? After this image was taken he was shot by Israeli snipers. He needs surgery and pain meds. I've checked this fund-raiser as best as I can and have confirmed with A'ed that it is indeed for him. Please contribute if you can.

Simplifying UAE aims as simply anti democratic or anti Islamist predicts little and doesn’t helps in understanding UAE Policy. Whether in Europe or North Africa, the UAE has followed a path of least resistance. 1
