Nothing to be ashamed of. In 1919 the Czechs grabbed Zaolzie populated mainly by Poles (killed many Poles, expelled many & failed to hold the required referendum). Poland could not allow the Germans to "solve" the Zaolzie (still many Poles there) conflict in 1938 as they pleased.

"Pamiętnik z łódzkiego getta" Jakuba Poznańskiego nie może być przetłumaczony na język angielski, bo świat sobie tego nie życzy. Powody są co najmniej dwa: autor przeżył i bardzo dobrze orientował się we wszystkich sprawach getta, opisywał wszystko szczegółowo i chronologicznie.

I haven't seen Pawel Pawlikowski's "Cold War" but if other Western viewers interpret it in the same way as Stanley Bill, then the film is nothing but agitprop. Marxist intellectuals will love such crooked historical relativism and it is therefore prime material for another Oscar.

If the characters' main dilemma is where there's more freedom, Pawlikowski did an abysmal job of describing what living under the murderous communist regime was about, where an untold number of Poles were killed, jailed and every free thought was stamped out by commie censorship.
