This version of Wikipedia is written in English (see Main Page#Wikipedia languages). With this being said, this page is a place to list foreign language articles on the English Wikipedia, to see if they can be translated before they are listed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. If someone speaks the language the article is written in and can state that it is not worth translating, the item should be moved to AfD or tagged with {{prod}}.
If an article has been listed here for two weeks and is still untranslated, it should be nominated for deletion.

Standard procedures[edit]
If you are here for the first time and have an article in a foreign language or a poorly translated article that you wish to list here to forestall possible deletion, you should start by finding the most appropriate template from among the ones listed at Wikipedia:Template messages/Translation and add it to the article page, save the page, and then follow the instructions in the banner on how to list the article here. You might need to click '[show]' to see all the instructions.
If you want to ask for a translation into English of an article from a foreign-language Wikipedia, go to Wikipedia:Translation.
Listing a page here[edit]
Most pages get listed here by subst'ing a {{Duflu}} or {{Needtrans}} template, following the instructions given at any one of several translation-related templates that were just added onto the article page. Many (but not all) templates found at Wikipedia:Template messages/Translation request adding the corresponding article here.
See section Boilerplate text below for details of the templates available for use on the main article page.
Other ways to find articles for inclusion on this page are:
- Find articles in a specific language category under Category:Expand by language Wikipedia templates. For example, Template:Expand Spanish puts articles into Category:Articles needing translation from Spanish Wikipedia.
- Monitor Recent changes tagged with ContentTranslation keyword
Tagging[edit]
If the article is a mere copy of (all or part of) an article in a foreign-language Wikipedia, it can just be tagged with {{db-foreign}} to get added to Wikipedia:Candidates for speedy deletion: we want to discourage people who cut articles from one Wikipedia and paste to another without translating. You can leave a message on the contributing user's talk-page in their own language, using the templates from WP:PNT/Templates for user talk pages or using {{UE}}.
Replacement and restoration[edit]
Sometimes, legitimate articles are replaced by foreign-language content. In this case, the last English-language version should be restored from the history.
In addition, you may leave a message on the user's talk-page as indicated above.
Notification[edit]
When listing a page here, you might want to find the Wikipedia:Embassy, Ambassador, or Wikipedia:Local embassy member of the Wikipedia that relates to the language the article is in and invite them to move the page to their own Wikipedia. If you don't even know what language the article is in you could use Language recognition chart and if that fails, some language recognition web site, such as Xerox or What Language Is This? to find out. If you have come here from another Wikipedia, please note on this page what you think should be done with the article.
Deletion[edit]
If an article has been listed here for two weeks and is still untranslated, it should be nominated for deletion. (See also Guide to deletion.)
Articles that are not in English are still subject to all other forms of speedy deletion should they meet the criteria, and can be nominated for deletion by prod or afd should an editor feel they warrant deletion for a reason other than the language it is in, an article not being in English is not itself a criterion for deletion until the two week period has passed. Also, foreign-language articles are still subject to blp prod.
After translation[edit]
When a page listed here has been translated, its entry should be removed (or moved to section Cleanup if the translation needs another pair of eyes).
There are also procedures to follow at the Talk page of the article itself; see template {{translated page}} and Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate.
Boilerplate text[edit]
Translate page[edit]
For a page that needs translation in its entirety (so it would be appropriate to delete if not fixed):
- 1. Use the notice
{{notenglish|NameOfLanguage}}if you know the language used, or{{notenglish}}if you cannot identify the language of the page in question. The template will show up as:
| This page needs translation into English. This page is written in a language other than English. If it is intended for readers from the community of that language, it should be contributed to the Wikipedia in that language. See the list of Wikipedias. Please see this page's entry on Pages needing translation into English for discussion. If the article is not rewritten in English within the next two weeks it will be listed for deletion and/or moved to the Wikipedia in its current language. If you have just labeled this page as needing translation, please add {{subst:uw-notenglish | 1 = Wikipedia:Pages needing translation into English}} ~~~~on the talk page of the author. |
- 2. Add a mention on this page.
- 2.1. If you know what language was used, add:
{{subst:Needtrans| pg= | Language=NameOfLanguage| Comments= }}--~~~~
- replacing NameOfLanguage with the English name of the language.
- 2.2. If you cannot identify the language used, add:
{{subst:Needtrans| pg= | Language=unknown| Comments= }}--~~~~
- 2.1. If you know what language was used, add:
- 3. You may also choose to warn the contributing editor with
{{uw-english}}, the "use English" warning, or suggest to use a different language Wikipedia with{{contrib-xx1}}, where xx is the language code (see available templates). An alternate template for identifying the article as having been listed here is{{uw-notenglish}}. Usage is:-
{{subst:uw-notenglish|articlename|<optional text>}}~~~~
-
- Bilingual versions of this template have been created for Norwegian, Spanish, Polish, and French. See the note on these at
{{uw-notenglish}}.
Translate section[edit]
If there is just a section that needs translation:
- 1. Use the notice
{{Not English|NameOfLanguage|section}}, with the word "section" as a second unnamed parameter at the beginning of the non-English content. The template will show up as:
| This section needs translation into English. This section is written in a language other than English. If it is intended for readers from the community of that language, it should be contributed to the Wikipedia in that language. See the list of Wikipedias. Please see this section's entry on Pages needing translation into English for discussion. If the section is not rewritten in English it may be deleted. If you have just labeled this page as needing translation, please add {{subst:uw-notenglish | 1 = Wikipedia:Pages needing translation into English}} ~~~~on the talk page of the author. |
- 2. Add a mention on this page, as above.
- 3. You may wish to place a note on the talk pages of contributors of non-English material, saying that English Wikipedia is meant for English-language content, inviting them to translate it, and, if appropriate, suggesting the location of the Wikipedia edition for the language in question should they wish to post content in that language.
Cleanup[edit]
If the article has been translated, but needs attention from someone approaching dual fluency in both languages:
- 1. Use the notice
{{cleanup-translation}}, which will show up as:
| This article contains translated text and needs attention from someone with dual fluency.
If you have just labeled this page as needing attention, please add {{subst:Duflu | pg = Wikipedia:Pages needing translation into English | Language = unknown | Comments = }} ~~~~to the bottom of the WP:PNTCU section on Wikipedia:Pages needing translation into English. |
- 2. Add a mention to the translation cleanup section.
Pages for consideration[edit]
If you are sure, consider placing the corresponding template on the creator's talk page.

Beijing city fortifications[edit]
The language of this article is Chinese. Just the references. Daniel Case (talk) 22:37, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
- It appears that in January 2016 Joel.Miles925 added a translation of the references to the bottom of the article. I think the translation needs to be copyedited, then added to the inline citations. Then the original Chinese can be deleted. I will start the work of moving the citations inline, but I cannot confirm the accuracy of the translations. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 02:53, 14 June 2016 (UTC)
- I have finished the task of moving the English so that it appears directly after the Chinese. But I have to say, it looks like a machine translation to me and probably would have to be done from scratch. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 04:44, 14 June 2016 (UTC)

This was originally posted in Spanish. I started a translation, and then another editor finished the job, but also removed the sources, which are in Spanish. - Two other editors (mostly) have worked on this, doing what appears to be copy-editing of that portion of the Google translate that is intelligible, and dropping the rest. I've started in on doing some translation, including restoring some of the dropped sentences with new translations, and also putting some of the dropped sentences back into the article, this time in the original German since the garbled English was useless and immune to copyediting, so they can be translated later. They are all tagged {{not English-inline}} and can be easily found. There were also a great number of missing wikilinks as well as some incorrect ones. I also resolved some red-links and added some {{ill}} links where de has the link but we don't. This article is well worth having, and I'd like some additional help here from translators. A very BAD machine translation. I have put some heroic effort into this, which was somewhat interesting from a puzzle solving POV. I am currently on strike after realizing that the "trade shows" and "fairs" that were puzzling me were in fact literary salons. Yes. Trade show is sometimes translated as a salon, into French, but Gertrude Stein (it was realizing that we were talking about Gertrude Stein that was the key) definitely didn't stage trade shows. It's now a bad and incomplete article that still has some language issues, but much better than it was. I intend to come back to it (how could you overlook Art Deco) but feel free to pitchin if you like Elinruby (talk) 04:28, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Elinruby: Please see Talk:France in the 1920s#Article_title. Mathglot (talk) 11:27, 15 December 2016 (UTC)
- Since there was consensus on the talk page (3 editors) and no opposition I have moved this page to [[[Années folles]]. The French article was linking to... "Golden 20s" I think it was, which turns out to be what the period was called in Germany. There seem to be a few parallels but that article mentions Paris only in passing. So. I think I have fixed the wikidata item, but I'd never done this before so someone might want to look at that. I am slowly working my way back to this ugly problem. We do need to mention Art Deco, which is completely absent from the article right now. It has its own quite detailed and authoritative-looking page, so we don't need to be exhaustive, but a summary really needs to be included here, and the stuff about Hemingway and the many art movements that blossomed in this period as well. Also Dada has its own page but should also be mentioned and linked to. I could use some help if anyone is so moved. There is also a problem with a related page, School of Paris, which was a group active in Paris at the time, but also was the name of a medieval group of manuscript illustrators. This needs to be split into separate articles Elinruby (talk) 23:46, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

- @Paris1127: Can you comment on why you listed this page here? I made a couple of minor, non-translation related edits, but the article seems fine translation-wise, and hasn't changed much since 2007. Mathglot (talk) 08:19, 10 February 2017 (UTC)

The initial language of this article was Spanish. minor but historic Spanish football team, article seems quite good in terms of content but has just been directly machine-translated and stuck on (including refs and links) so looks very untidy. Most of what is there can be worked out but it would be better if a Spanish speaker can look at it to make sure the meanings are changed correclty (or removed if irrelevant) Crowsus (talk) 16:13, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

pages created by PootisHeavy[edit]
PootisHeavy (talk · contribs) seems to be creating a lot of pages translated mostly from German Wikipedia, but also Hungarian and Polish. I haven't examined them yet, to see if they all belong here; maybe we could mark them as we go through them, and either strike out or delete the entries that look fine in English, and mark the ones that have already been examined and should stay here.
This list was scraped from the Special:Recent changes page. I'm not sure if this is a general technique we should continue to use, but it certainly pulled up a lot of pages real fast in this case.
All the articles below have the following "to be done" items in common:
- they need one or more {{stub}} templates to be added from Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/List of stubs
- almost all need a See also section above the References section with a few links, per MOS:ALSO
- don't translate most proper nouns (Theater names; film names—unless released with an English title)
- replace red links with {{ill}} template pointing to the original de, pl, or whatever article

This list was generated by scraping Special:Recent changes on Feb 17 01:48, applying the regex ^\s*N\s+\d\d:\d\d\s+([^(]+)\s+.*?PootisHeavy.*$, and adding bullet and link brackets. Trailing hyphen, language ident, and anything else you see was added manually subsequently (some of it by PootisHeavy!). Mathglot (talk) 02:20, 17 February 2017 (UTC)
