A Beetlejuice musical is coming to Broadway

Everyone's favorite "ghost with the most, babe" is coming to Broadway for the 2018–2019 theater season, The New York Post reports.

The Beetlejuice adaptation will be produced by Warner Brothers and directed by Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson's Alex Timbers. Other information about the musical is scant thus far, but we can only imagine that it will be a creepy, slightly perverse, grand ol' time. One of the 1988 film's most iconic scenes features a choreographed dance number performed to an original recording of Harry Belafonte's "Banana Boat Song," and it's easy to see how a hammy story with larger-than-life characters could be well-suited to the stage.

Timbers is also known for his work on Mozart in the Jungle, The Pee-Wee Herman Show, and the David Byrne / Fatboy Slim jukebox musical Here Lies Love, and was recently replaced as the director of Disney's upcoming Frozen musical adaptation. He is currently directing a workshop of David Byrne's Joan of Arc musical, St. Joan, at New York's Public Theater.

New Yorkers looking to celebrate this great news can drop in on Beetle House in the East Village, where two of The Verge's intrepid reporters once endured a horrible evening with a handful of bright spots (Beetlejuice impersonator, boozy chocolate martini, tourists in striped blazers).
