The first trailer for Nicolas Winding Refn's The Neon Demon debuted about a month ago, and its compelling combination of Elle Fanning, neon lights, blood, creepy voiceover, Los Angeles, blonde cornrows, and mountain lions sent the Twittersphere into a tizzy. It's about a pretty young girl who wants to start a career in modeling and then people start getting murdered, apparently? Or it's about a ghost who wants to coerce Christina Hendricks into starring in a Zayn Malik music video? Or it's about Gigi Hadid? Who knows, but we can't wait to see it.
The film has just debuted at the Cannes Film Festival to a reception that could be generously described as "polarized." I would have been shocked if it had gone any other way. Now for the only question remaining to those of us not currently in France: how are we going to feel about this movie?
