Aston Martin's most beautiful car in years is the Vanquish Zagato

Five years ago, Aston Martin teamed up with Italian design house Zagato to make one of the most beautiful cars of the last quarter century, the Vantage-based V12 Zagato. The 510-horsepower coupe — painted in rich, deep, stunning Diavalo Red — ended up getting a 150-unit production run after the concept debuted, and for good reason: the muscular beauty of that car was beyond description.

Now, Aston and Zagato have done it again.

What you're looking at here is the Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Concept. Yes, "Concept" is a part of the name — but unless the car gets booed off stage at its Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este debut this weekend (it won't), you can bet your bottom dollar that Aston will end up making a few of these for very, very well-heeled buyers.

As the name suggests, the car is based on the Vanquish, which comes equipped with a six-liter, 569-horsepower V-12. Styling was a collaboration between teams at Aston and at Zagato in Milan, bringing out Zagato trademarks like the twin-bubble roof and the wraparound windshield profile — similar to the V12 Zagato — while preserving Aston Martin's core DNA in the grille and headlamps. Around back, there's a retractable spoiler (I kind of loved the giant, unapologetic wing on the V12 Zagato, but this is nice too) along with "bladed" taillights that are supposed to evoke Aston's Vulcan hypercar.

And obviously, as you could probably guess, the entire car is carbon fiber.

Get a glimpse at it if you happen to be in Lake Como, Italy this weekend. If not, you'll have to wait a little bit until Aston admits that this is a product car and opens up the order books.
