I would also like to vote for this bug. Most times we just need polylines above a pure black background. Making everything not related to the track black would be the perfect solution.

Google, we have a problem....

The only workaround (while sticking with Google Maps) is to use a webview, which is extremely glitchy and performs poorly.  This feature needs to be added to the SDK.

I agree, I'm developing an iOS app with a GMSMapView and I was hopping to be able to change the map colors to match my app theme colors ... I think its an important feature to add to the SDK, please Google =D

This is really important to us for accessibility reasons.

This is a hilarious case study for waiting 2 years with zero f*cks given by Google. Map box looks really interesting.

I'm waiting for . . . 

I am working on a project for a client, who purchased a license for the SDK. Only once we started to work on integration of the SDK was is it clear that this feature isn't available. So, we talked with Google and the response was very disappointing. "Yes, we know that many people want this feature. No, we can't tell you when or if we will be adding it." I think that this is a typical situation where transparency would help Google.

I needed this feature back in Oct 2013, its pending since then. I used MapBox instead they have great features, and great flexibility of creating Custom Maps, they are way ahead of google.
