But the plot backfired when Gris, 56 - who was unaware of his wife's scheme - accused the Filipina maid of stealing £12,000. He and his wife - who have four boys under the age of ten - then used blue rope and handcuffs to tie up the childminder and keep her prisoner at their £650,000 home in Bishop Sutton, Somerset. After three days of torture, the maid wriggled free and used the rope to climb out of a window.
