Leaked OnePlus 3 images offer metal hints about next month’s launch

29

It's been almost a year since the OnePlus 2 debuted, and it looks like we're about to see its successor next month. Leaked images appear to show the OnePlus 3 complete with a new USB Type-C port. That's not the only new addition, as a leaked press render from Evan Blass shows a OnePlus 3 with a metallic body. That would be a big step away from the plastic build of the original OnePlus, and a welcome move for fans of the reasonably priced smartphone.

Engadget points out that the leaked render "could be a decoy" designed to create hype ahead of an official launch. It appears that the front-side fingerprint reader is present, and the T-shaped antenna suggests that NFC will be supported, but the laser autofocus and dual-tone flash are curiously missing. Given the HTC-like design, it's unlikely that we'll be seeing any interchangeable back covers for the OnePlus 3 this time around.

OnePlus has previously committed to a June launch for its next smartphone, and the device is rumored to include a 2.2GHz Snapdragon 820 processor, up to 6GB of RAM, and a 16-megapixel camera. While rumors suggest it's the same 5.5-inch display size, Evan Blass claims the display type will be AMOLED, alongside a 3,000 mAh battery.
