(1/2) We were shocked and saddened to learn that a homeless man in Middlesborough passed away on Wednesday.
In his last days he was assaulted with spray paint and abused by members of the public. This tragedy could and should have been prevented and the lessons must be learned. twitter.com/MetroUK/status…

This is a significant victory for the campaign to protect journalists' sources, & the judgement represents a blow to the govt, @theresa_may & repressive surveillance law. Great work & well done to @TBIJ

(The judgement is on several cases that were joined together. I was the named claimant on @tbij's one, about journalistic safeguards, because at the time I reporting on drones and the government's counter-terrorism powers)

The European Court of Human Rights has ruled that mass surveillance by GCHQ and other intelligence agencies without adequate safeguards to protect the freedom of the press is unlawful. Major win by @TBIJ that we should all be grateful for. thebureauinvestigates.com/stories/2018-0…

Our submission to the #Cairncross Review argues:
- the importance of local media & outlines the industry challenges
- @bureaulocal is just one contribution to the solution. We need more!

On #WorldSepsisDay lets just highlight that at least 12,000 people die from drug resistant #sepsis each year - twice as many as the government's estimate for ALL drug resistant deaths in the UK - and that was in 2016 thebureauinvestigates.com/stories/2016-1… #antibioticresistance #superbugs

Today's mass #surveillance victory is in a case we started back in 2013 after @snowden blew the whistle. But it is NOT in the past.
The Govt has replicated and expanded the powers we challenged here in the Investigatory Powers Act – which we're challenging in the High Court. twitter.com/MirrorPolitics…
