Carnation in Bloom
I was trying to capture a blooming red and white carnation using my 105mm macro lens, and was working depth of field to see if I wanted a lot of softness or pretty much everything in the shot in focus. I ended up going in between with most of the bloom in focus, with the spiraling edges blurring out of focus. Though it looked good it color, when I converted it to monochrome, I think it took on a new beauty that not only captured the artistic essence of the subject, but also the interesting range of darks and lights presented throughout the blossoming flower.

Clover Close-Up
Ahh, I love pinkish purple flowers against green leaves. Maybe that's way I take pictures of so many of them! :) I love how feathery the flower looks and the softness of this shot I think presents the clover in a very delicate way. A true spring shot as we transition toward summer.

I never realized how versatile the compact Sony RX100 could be for shooting up close! Here is a shot of a purple geranium flower in our garden this week. I really like the detailed, yet surrealistic painterly quality of the shot. Looks like I have another very handy tool for macro photos!

Passing the Torch
As our Gerbera daisies reach the end of their flowering stage, other plants, especially our pine trees, are now releasing heaps of pollen our into the wind for hopeful pollination. I like this photo of the senescing daisies as you can see the the powdery yellow of the excessive airborne pollen on the still-rich red color of the petals. Not only is it a symbolic photo of the passing of the torch for flowering and pollination to the next round of flowering plants this season, but the yellows and reds make for a beautiful aesthetic in such a macro photograph.
