Hand of the unknown artist

While making my slow way from Newport Beach towards Bungan Head (Sydney Nrthern Beaches), I came across the work of some unknown artist - the upright driftwood, the woven seaweed loop, the delicately stacked rocks - they made a good silhouetted foreground against the sunrays from the recently risen sun going behind low clouds, and the stratocumulus clouds high in the blue sky.

Step through the weed

I want to break free

Colourful sky at the moment of sunrise as seen from a spot between Newport Beach and Bungan Head (Sydney Northern Beaches). The sun can be seen just emerging behind the reef that lies about 450m from the rocks at the southern end of Newport beach.

Even the sky is warm

First light at Newport Beach Rockpool (Sydney Northern Beaches) not too long ago, on a day when even the previous night and early morning were warm from the heat of the previous day. Even the sky was warm that morning, as if in sympathy!

Watch your step

A few seconds before sunrise over Lake Michigan in Chicago. Photograph taken from the Hook Pier At North Avenue Beach. I dragged my friend out for a sunrise shoot and he gamely came along on a cold morning. Pretty cold - you see those reflecting pink patches on the pier? That's ice. Some of the shallow water on the inside of the hook (the right) was also frozen as was the sand. Maybe normal for a Chicago native but novel for a guy from a warm place like me.

A little closer

The earlier Chicago nightscape panorama was shot at 35mm. I also shot a 6 frame panorama with an 85mm lens. This panorama is made up of 3 of those frames, showing the part bookended by the Willis Tower on the right and One Museum Park on the left, with Shedd Aquarium in the left foreground.

Give me some of your warmth

Chicago cityscape at night as seen from Lake Michigan's edge below Adler Planetarium. 6 frame panorama, best seen full screen. Taken last Saturday - a very cold and windy night - at times windy enough to make my tripod vibrate. My friend was wisely sitting in his warm car while I took this, my nose streaming in the cold and shutter finger nearly numb!
