What's NOT On The Menu!!

I love the iridescent feathers on wild turkeys. These are young males, called jakes, and they wonder in a group of 7-10 around the grounds of the Burr Oaks Conservation area near Kansas City, MO. Burr Oaks is a 1200 acre protected area of woodlands and meadows. These turkeys love the bird feeders!! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

Fall in Missouri

Burr Oaks Conservation Area is 1200 acres of woodlands and meadows surrounded by suburbs of Kansas City. It's in Blue Springs Missouri. Young jake wild turkeys move in small groups throughout the park. I love watching them at the bird feeders! These birds are incredible!!

Kaibab Squirrels ~ North Rim Grand Canyon

I heard about these very rare squirrels more than 40 years ago and recently found two playing in the great Kaibab Forest on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

The Kaibab Squirrel only exists in the ponderosa pine forest of the Kaibab Plateau which is surrounded on 3 sides by desert and the Grand Canyon and Colorado River on the south side. Millions of years of evolution has produced a unique species though closely related to his cousin, the Albert's squirrel which is found on the South Rim. It's evolution by geographic isolation. Look close and you can see his buddy at the bottom right of the tree. These two were playing and totally oblivious to the excited photographer going crazy!!

Woody says Good Morning World!!  I love watching birds!!  They are such interesting creatures!!  I love figuring out their habits and patterns!  I watched this handsome fellow at the bird feeder at Burr Oaks Conservation Area in Blue Springs, Missouri, for 4 hours.  His reward was the sunflower seed!  My reward was his wonderful portrait!!  We both had a great day!!

I watched this little #RockyMountainNationalPark  resident fight a mappie over a piece of popcorn.  The magpie won and the jay settled into a nearby tree.
