Hi everybody,
In the last weeks I had thoughts of how to make money from developing free (as free of speech, NOT as free beer) open source software
, and I thought of the following idea:
May be if we demand  money for each copy of software (or seperate module/library) and embed a secret eastern eggs in the code, so that if someone will steal the code and modify it and sell it without paying   me money, I can sue him because I will trigger the secret eastern egg in his modified software and , in that way I can prove he stole my code without paying me for each copy he sell (if he modify the code and pay me 5$ for each copy that he sells in 25$ that's fine and legal if he credit me also).
Now, I know what you thinking, this is open source,right? and if the source code is open(as oppose to binaries...) then he can look for strange things. that's true, but I think that if  the programmer will be awared to this point he can make it very difficult for the "thief" to find the eastern eggs.
some of the principles might be:
* Don't make the output of the eastern egg noticeable for the normal user. that means that the eastern egg should be something like a message like this: "the sychronization procces  succeeed" instead of:""the sychronization procces succeeed" (Did you see the difference? hint: invaders from outer space) or even make a button to apear one pixel left from where he supposed to be. you should be creative...

* Don't make the CODE of the eastern egg noticeble to the average programmer:
for example- the following code is a noticeable eastern egg (pseudo code):
if string=="abc4Jt7"
print ("synchronization  complete")
else
print ("synchronization complete")

while the following is less noticeable:
x=heaviside(str2int(string1)*str2int(string2)/1000-1)
str3=repeat(x+1,space)
print(["synchronization",str3 ,"complete"])
print ("the product is" int2str(str2int(str1)*str2int(string2)))

I'm sorry that this pseudo code is very messy (I'm a bit tired...), but the idea is to hide the eastern egg inside an existing functions, so that it won't be suspicious

* Don't bother the original propose of the software.

I would like to hear your opinion about ubuntu touch.
Does ubuntu touch is a good solution for student that need good word proccesor , spreadsheet sometimes, may be a note taking app like "OneNote", email , browsing , pdf reading etc.
