Maire Thompson: Hello, and thank you so much +Kimmetal Smith, the gardens I took this picture at have been dug up to make way for a Wildbase Recovery Centre so I am a little anxious about next summer! Might be time to start planting swan plants (milkweed) in my own garden :-)

I've been a little preoccupied lately and it is also the school holidays, on a cold winters day what shall we do...looks like someone has been challenged to a game! Hmmm....good luck caped crusader

Cell Zealot: Beautiful shot! I don't know if you are aware, but these look very much like hallucinogenic Psilocybe species. The wavy cap margin with the hygrophanous rim and the gill shape and coloration and stem (that I can see) all conform with some members of this genus.
Do you have any other images?

Maire Thompson: I was not aware of that +Cell Zealot! I found them in the vege garden when I was going to dig it over ready for winter planting, of course I went and got my camera first to take a picture before continuing with the gardening. Next time they come up I'll take some more pictures and may have to watch out for neighbourhood ratbags, lol ;-)

Maire Thompson: Hello +G.lox321 G.lox321, +Cell Zealot is quite right! My interest is in photographing them as they make lovely subjects. Since a bad experience as a child with some field mushrooms my father had found, I never pick them and get any we intend to eat from the grocer! Sometimes I will look up something interesting I have found, but I quickly forget all the information I have just read, and I did memorise all the poisonous ones some years ago but have long forgotten these as well!

Apollo Park in Palmerston North is a local overwintering site for Monarch butterflies here in New Zealand. Since the 11,000 km journey across the Pacific Ocean (6,900 miles) just isn't possible, the monarchs have established sites around the country to spend those cold winter months. How lucky am I to be a 15 minute drive from one?
