Some thoughts about the export process after Google+ shuts down for good.

There's a new Google+ Exporter release 1.8.0
Tell you Google+ friends about G+Exporter, there's only a few weeks left to back up your Google+ fully.
Videos attached to posts are detected and made available for download but still not part of the WP and Blogger export though, that functionality will be available in one of the future releases.
Posts and comments +1 counts are newly available in JSON export.

You can import your Google+ feeds to Discourse thanks to +Michael K Johnson
Glorious success here: +Michael K Johnson wrote a script to import multiple communities as categories in a Discourse forum installation. Thousands of preserved posts, signup by email or using google auth, and ability to own your own imported posts.
His announcement is here:

and the only downside is that he has no spare time to hand-hold. However, the discourse support forums seem pretty good. As it happens, I'd already chosen discourse as my preferred platform for a newly set up forum.
The data you'd be importing is data exported by the Google +Exporter by +Friends+Me - and that tool can now export public communities even if you're not a member.
