Fitness after treatment? by Dirtymike4493 in lymphoma

[–]Matteral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During my treatment for dlbcl, I made a point of creating an exercise routine with home equipment, bands and free weights. Even though my immune system was compromised, as long as I was in my safe bubble, I realized the benefit of keeping my muscles active, and more importantly the structured routine gave my mind an outlet to regularly release a lot of the anxiety from the experience. I cannot recommend this enough as long as you are keeping safe to avoid anything that would set back your healing stage, which is what I consider the treatment phase of cancer. Modification is the key to this. If you don't have the energy to get out of bed, move and rotate as necessary. Make reps out of anything, even the smallest stuff. When I finished my treatment, this routine blended so well into returning to a higher level of fitness. I'm wishing you a full and speedy recovery.

Egg prices soaring. It's nearly $9 at some Chicago grocers. by DukeOfDakin in chicago

You forgot to mention that this seemingly exorbitant price is really a bargain since it's about select Chicago grocers soft launching IVF clinics in place of defunct TCF bank spaces.

She's a gentle mystery mix. I typically hear black German shepherd (the ears) with lab and husky thrown in for good measure.

I'm glad your dog is okay. You are absolutely right! I don't allow my dog to go on the glaciers or beside them. There is an area that is partially frozen over beach sand, which is her safe area. There are a lot of false bottoms, especially this early in the season and many people don't anticipate them until they fall through. I also recommend getting crampons (cleats connected to rubbers placed over shoes) for the people who want to walk on the icy parts of the beach or along the paths that may be covered in black ice.

A letter from my maternal grandfather to his wife, my maternal grandmother. by [deleted] in Yiddish

[–]Matteral 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! This is so special for me and my mother. It's such a sweet expression of love and joy. It was before everything went dark. My maternal grandfather and grandmothers parents, about a dozen of their siblings, so many nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors were all murdered in the Holocaust. The letters went back and forth across the ocean until they abruptly stopped.

I have some letters to translate between my grandparents and their parents, many of which contain their fears and information about the harsh realities unfolding in their shtetl of Tiktin. I will look for the courage to translate them soon.

I'm working on a small video project documenting my mother's experience of growing up as a first generation American under a perpetual shadow of loss. This note will help to contextualize the contrast of how things shifted.

Thank you again for illuminating this note.

PS Although I never knew my grandfather, I am grateful to have his name.

Before cancer vs 4 months of chemo by Certifiedratkiller in cancer

Your Muy Thai training must be harnessed to win this battle and to rebuild. It can feel demoralizing to see the impact of cancer in the mirror and even more powerfully in the expressions of those we know. I'm rooting for your full and speedy recovery.

What do you think caused your lymphoma? by davinabw in lymphoma

[–]Matteral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My oncologist ran a lot of tests and theorized that my case of DLBCL was probably related to a reactivated Epstein Barr virus and a glitch in my immune system. For all of my labs during remission, may it last, she always includes a panel to see if that virus is active, as it would require a more vigilant plan of monitoring. Please keep in mind that this isn't a conclusive connection to Epstein Barr, but a very strong theory within the context of screening for other factors that I didn't have.

Be prepared for possible Prednisone rage during those mega dose days within the cycle. Warn all loved ones that your heightened emotional responses are not just from the rigors of being a cancer patient. Also, frame the treatment as an effective healing process. Don't be afraid to reach out to your medical team for anything, no matter how seemingly small. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery.

I live in a very central location of a big city. The weaving in and out of crowds is too anxiety provoking for me. When I'm a pedestrian, I always get annoyed by joggers expecting me to accommodate their activity by moving out of the way on an extremely narrow and congested pedestrian sidewalk, so they can avoid having to accommodate the actual side-walkers om the actual sidewalk! It's like when a driver passive aggressively gives me the waving hand signal to hurry up crossing the street when I have the right of way. I don't want to be that figure of annoyance to others.

Popsicles can be a really important part of refreshment during treatment. by Matteral in lymphoma

Thank you. Remission has brought me to a place of being so grateful and paranoid all in one! But even without a cancer story, I'd be grateful and paranoid about a lot of stuff anyway.

He's put his cards on the table and it's a very revealing hand into a glimpse of a family life based on insecurity and manipulation. Emotional abuse is not a healthy environment for shalom bayis. You must restrain your emotion and look at him intellectually for what he's shown you, so that you may exercise your power within to make an important choice about your right to express your story, unedited, and your genuine ability to feel joy and comfort with a spouse.

Anyone used DCA and/or Metformin to fight lymphoma? by [deleted] in lymphoma

[–]Matteral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a diabetic and have been taking Metformin regularly for years. I don't think it had any actual impact on the lymphoma, but it sure proved essential as part of the arsenal for blood glucose control, as those numbers would go through the roof during the megadose cycles of prednisone, an expected and unfortunate side effect of steroids.

Since one can give of their time and money, it all feels connected to the same life preserving goal as blood and organ donation.
