Have also started to do the stitching on 4 of the projects I marked up last week, but not enough stitching to merit a photo… and the fact is, my camera is on the fritz, and I only get to take one photo before it tells me that the battery is low…

Not a lot to show for my work this week, my most recent stitching on the South Seas Laces SAL – Claire, Sandra and I stitching on this each Thursday, and after spending a day at the quilt show yesterday didn’t get much done last night… but a little more.
Also been working on the first of Laura’s Legacy mini quilts from The Quilters Crow, am hand piecing the little log cabin blocks, working on all 12 at once… am enjoying these, even if it is slow going… Have the next 3 quilt kits, so really want to try to keep progressing with these.
Have spent the day with Flossie today, preparing some work, mostly stitcheries. See below for details.
First off… I’m receiving Under the Mulberry Tree‘s Mystery Stitchery of the Month club, so spent today marking up the linen for the first 2 months.
One is a gorgeous house wallhanging from Rosalie Quinlan and the other is a lovely tea cosy/coaster set from Janelle Wind. Am loving these lovely 50’s era colours!
Also, when we did the Girls Day Out at Country Thyme in June we received several free kits and I bought a couple more… so prepped some of these today… a doily by Leanne Beasley, a bag by Melly from Melly and Me, and a sewing caddy and needlecase by Rosalie Quinlan (have marked two of these, one for me, and one for Mum.
Also marked up on Sandcastle two sets of stitchery to make a bag and assorted scissor, needle, pinkeeps from a Blue Willow Cottage pattern bought at the show yesterday.

Back in early 2007, following the bushfires that roamed across Victoria over that summer, Jasmine suggested that quilters make quilts to be donated to the local CFA Brigades that they could use to fundraise.
I was working at a local government council that had 2 staff members who were volunteers at two local brigades, and much to my delight discovered that Jayne, a newly returned from maternity colleague was also a quilter, so we decided to see if we could drum some interest up at work to make a couple of quilts for the two local brigades.
We ended up with a mottly crew of quilters, about a dozen women and 1 bloke, some of whom had quilted before, some crafty ones and some who’d never used needle and thread!
Jayne donated a truckload of blue/green fabrics and I donated backgrounds and leafy prints and we fundraised to buy borders and backing, and over a 12 month period made 2 quilt tops, one pieced and one buttonhole appliqued.
Our friend Jules professionally quilted the larger quilt for us, and Jayne quilted the smaller one, and finally this year the two quilts were finished.
One was donated to a brigade, and the other raffled at council for the other brigade.
I’m very proud of both these quilts and all the people who participated in their making.

Claire and Sandra were nice enough to invite me to join them on a SAL for South Seas Lace, a Debbie Draper design that was in the May Issue of The Gift of Stitching.
They started last Thursday, but Thursday last week wasn’t good for me, so I made a start last night. I’m doing my usual red, using Threadworx Bleeding Hearts, I’m enjoying it so far…sorry, for the photo… I need to buy myself a new camera!

A belated Friday flaunt from me, and mostly flaunting Flossie’s (Mum) work as I’ve done zip this week, due to a combination of working till 8.00pm each day and reading the whole Harry Potter series (7 books) over the last 10 days, in preparation for a trip to movies to see Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince planned for tomorrow.
First off, the ’30s quilt Flossie made for me, that lives on my bed. Everyone of the 174 hearts blocks are a different ’30s fabric from my stash – and that was just scratching the surface! Hand appliqued hearts on machine pieced snowball blocks, worked on over about a year – she took the blocks with her to doctor’s appointments etc. Quilted by The Patchwork Addiction in Essendon.
The rest of the flaunt is a selection of Flossie’s most recent bags. As I mentioned in an earlier post Mum’s been bitten by the bag bug, and I ended up the lucky recipient, though she also makes at least one for herself too!
Mum found some meterage of a synthetic prequilted fabric in her cupboard – who knows what we bought it for. She made me this simple envelope, which is perfect for keeping my current cross-stitch project together.
The next bag came from a UK magazine, it’s called the Mum bag, there was a smaller edition called the ‘baby’ bag! Made from red and green scraps (she knows what I like) – am currently using it to hold a knitting project (a scarf for a friend).
And then there is the Charm Square bag – a pattern in a McCalls Quilting magazine, designed to be made using charm packs.
A couple of years ago, I bought a mottly bundle of 5inch charms on ebay, there are hundreds of them.
Mum sorted out a pleasing selection of charms to make this for me. I really like it, colourwise, and like it even more for it’s practicality – it holds stacks, and is deep enough that I can stand up my sandpaper board and a small rotary mat. This is the bag that gets packed up when I’m heading off to a class or to Mum’s for a day of stitching. Mum made her bag out of all blue charms.
And finally, I like this one so much, I have two! These are Nellie’s Bag by Rosalie Quinlan, but instead on doing the pieced blocks we just used two fabrics one for the outside, and one for the inside. I bought two fabrics from Quilters Bazaar at their store opening earlier in the year, and Mum made two bags.
They have four pockets on the inside. The one with the strippy interior is my supply one – scissors, pins, needles, pencils etc. So I can add something small and take off. You can see a little of the gorgeous pink and green pincushion my friend Catherine made for everyone at our retreat this year. The other shows a glimpse of the Blackbird Design Sampler cross-stitch – the 2nd of these I’m making (this one’s for me). And that luscious red thread is the Threadworx thread I’m going to use for a new stitchalong, also bought from Quilters Bazaar.

Well, if I’m only going to flaunt items that I finish, I won’t be flaunting often!
So these are some of my Morrell Blocks already backbasted for me to applique. There are a stack of others already started… and my finished blocks can be seen on the Morrell page.
Have been concentrating on cross-stitch lately, but as I received the 4th mini quilt of the month from The Quilters Crow, and I haven’t finished the 1st, am going to work on this project over the weekend

Having gone through a doll making phase that lasted quite a while, Mum is now becoming a bit of a bag lady… need to dig out some of the bags she’s made for me lately and snap some shots…
So, you can imagine she’s a bit thrilled that I discovered this site via Diary of a Quilters blog,
A website that is dedicated to providing links to free bag tutorials and patterns.
Must tell my friend Jayne, who is the original bag lady in my book – she’s got 2 completed bags on her most recent post – she’s amazing!
