The boreal region stretches across more than 1 billion acres in northern Canada, from Yukon to Newfoundland and Labrador.

While rich in solitude, it is far from empty.

Indigenous peoples have lived in harmony with the forest for millenniums, and today continue their tradition as its stewards. The boreal is also home to hundreds of northern towns and communities that depend on both a healthy environment and a sustainable resource-based economy for their survival.

Protecting the long-term integrity of the boreal forest is critical to the well-being of its residents, as well as the economic and ecological goods and services it provides.

Ocean conservation is essential but extremely difficult to understand. Pew joined forces with cartoonist Jim Toomey, the artist behind “Sherman’s Lagoon,” on 10 animated videos that explain the complicated concepts that guide efforts to protect our oceans.
