Aryeh Lurie knew hunger as a child. Because of his own poor upbringings, he decided at a young age to help get food to those who had even less than him. In 1988 he founded Yad Ezra V’Shulamit. Today, the organization is the largest food distributor in Israel, giving 12,000 food baskets every week at 95 distribution points throughout Israel.

Recipients of our food baskets include hundreds of thousands of widows, orphans, poor children and families, the elderly, Holocaust survivors, and anyone who seeks our help. We operate under government guidelines with a vetting process to ensure that everyone who we help really needs it. We prioritize the mission to break the cycle of poverty – especially in children. Our Children’s Centers are designed specifically to give poor children the chance for a brighter future.

We distribute 12,000 food baskets at 95 distribution points situated all across Israel every week, and over 62,000 on Rosh Hashana and Passover. We give our baskets in major cities and small towns alike. With our 15 trucks, volunteers, staff, and four warehouses dispersed across the country, we can get food to Israel’s poor, wherever they may live.

• We deliver 12,000 food baskets every week, and 100,000 food baskets and grocery vouchers for the holidays, equipping the poor with daily nutritious food including chicken, fish, fruits, vegetables, dairy products and more.
• We run three Children’s Centers, a safe place for underprivileged, immigrant, and minority children to go after school to eat a daily, hot meal, receive help with their homework, therapy, and extracurricular activities.
• We give baby formula and diapers to mothers in need.
• We provide over 350 widows and orphans with monthly food vouchers.
• We help orphan and poor couples get married by covering the cost of their wedding at one of our three non-profit wedding halls. We also subsidize or provide at-cost weddings for poor families.
• We give lone soldiers food vouchers to buy what they need and feel cared for.
• In emergency situations we rise to the occasion and do what we can to help. Whether that's bringing food to the front lines, or delivering ready-made meals to the elderly, disabled, and immobile people stuck at home or in bomb shelters across Israel.
