Student life is an important and dynamic component of an active university experience. Western Michigan University offers many student organizations, clubs and recreational activities to help students engage in campus life, and to become active members of the WMU community. Each student is encouraged to grow both academically and personally, and to become participating university members. All 2018 high school graduates entering Western in the fall will be required to attend Orientation in the summer. This is regardless of dual enrollment, Early Middle College, and transferable credits. All 2017 high school graduates, that have not attended any college post high school graduation, will also be required to attend New Student Orientation in the summer. Students will meet with Academic Advisors and register for fall classes during Orientation. With the exception of Medallion students that participated in "Honors First," students will not be allowed to register for classes prior to attending Orientation.
The mission of the Western Michigan University Orientation program is to provide a comprehensive experience which will aid new students in their transition to the institution, expose new students to the educational opportunities within WMU, integrate new students into the academic and campus life of the institution, increase the retention rate of new students, assist parents and families of new students to understand the University environment and services and enhance parental awareness of issues facing college students.
