I’m gay too. And I’m old enough (50) to remember very effective boycotts by the gay community against discrimination by Coors and Cracker Barrel.
But Nate, this is akin to saying black people in Montgomery should not have boycotted busses because white people were already boycotting black schools. I think it's good to use speech (protest) as a lever against corporations. What I don't want is to use corporations as a lever against speech.

This argument is plain silly overthinking. You boycott where it hurts so you get a result. It works if it's supported. Period. Boycotts by bigots don't work because they don't get much support. Boycotting bigots via advertisers works if supported. There is no "both sides" here.

Boycotting by bigots does occasionally work. They also sometimes win through voting, violence, lawsuits, street actions, propaganda. That doesn't make any of these things good or bad.

Silver probably feels threatened by white men losing their platforms. It does seem strange to align yourself with bad people losing their platforms for good reasons. There aren't enough sentences to flesh out a good defense of those men.

That said, Silver is a status quo public figure seeing other status quo public figures that look like him deplatformed by people who dont look like him. It's a natural psycho-social reaction that Silver would do this *because* he's upholding a white male status quo.
