The good news, is AWS Firecracker is a further nail in the old "we're being locked in" argument. I expect a future conversation of ... X : We're being locked into Firecracker. Me : Open source! X : Yes, but we can't run it as well as AWS. Me : That's called finally being honest.

It’s a really curious sociological thing that the fact that folks are exploiting the OSS devs here, and I’m not choosing that word lightly, is what gives them social permission to hold their own engineering practices blameless in the process of doing the exploitation.

30 minutes from now, at 8am PST, I'm hosting a call about Ethereum's JSON-RPC spec - how to standardize it, test it, and collaborating on maintaining it. Links to Zoom & agenda in the HackMD notes

Great commentary on one of the first Amazon OSS projects. Previously they had mainly open source SDKs. This is another tipping point of everything open source, even at the corporate level. Which means it’s time for open source to evolve — hence new license discussions.

Pretty impressed by the team. They’re working on Plasma chains and organizing themselves using Holocracy and bounties. Check their community page for more details

Posted the notes / action items from our call to -- moving ahead with getting EIP615 Static Jumps accepted & deployed, more clarity needed on eWASM upgrade path, and LLVM & other IR usage for security needs

Open source licenses, maintainership, payment, and the entire software industry that is built on open source are going to continue to go through some big changes. If you are building on top, those “free” externalities of dependencies are about to start costing.

It’s not unfair to call ’s creation of the PPL as radical & indeed he says it himself “Rule 3 is new. Rule 3 is radical. In many situations, Rule 3 is necessary.”
