Beau is Quirkless in a world of people born with special abilities, no matter how insignificant. Her parents had already been disappointed when Beauregard wasn’t the son they wished for, but when–at age four–it became clear that Beau would never even have a superhuman power, they gave up on making Beau into something they could be proud of.

When she was a kid, all Beau wanted to be was a hero. At age 21 she is a skilled martial artist with no interest in becoming one of the heavily regulated pro heroes roaming the streets. Instead, Beau goes hunting at night by herself, picking up the guys that are considered too unimportant to get chased away by the professionals. Punishing stalkers, abusers and rapists is what Beau is good at, her lack of a quirk be damned.

On a winter night while on patrol, Beau gets in the way of pro heroes Sapphire and Orphanmaker who are in pursuit of a villain calling himself The Iron Shepherd. Beau gets swept up in a world she was never allowed to belong to and on the way makes friends with a former villain turned hero, a con artist with no memories and a another Quirkless guy called Fjord who almost fell victim to one of the Shepherd’s attacks–all while learning what it means to be a hero.
