- Mikael FHelsinki, Finland28,830 contributionsSince 25 July 2021, Retiro Park has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site covering over 125 hectares and comprising more than 15,000 trees. It is a must-see park when visiting Madrid.
In addition to many other plants, you can find here a Mexican conifer that is nearly 400 years old and is believed to be Madrid’s oldest tree. The park has a large artificial lake, where you can rent a rowing boat. The park is also filled with interesting sculptures and fountains.
You can have a really relaxing time here despite being in the heart of a big city.Written January 9, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There is so much to see, so plan ahead, get your tickets in advance, and make sure you give yourself plenty of time here. We used our Floor Plan Map to mark each room and all of the highlights, as well as used a list prepared in advance, so we would be sure to see everything we hoped to see.Written January 9, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This time, we attended the Piccaso-Chanel exhibition, which was apx. USD20 and included entrance to the rest of the museum.
The exhibition was AMAZING and we enjoyed it a lot.
After visiting the exhibition, we strolled through the permanent exhibition of the museum for another hour or so, and enjoyed it a lot, as well.Written January 11, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Lots of shops, but many of them the same international brands that you seem to get everywhere else in the world.Written January 8, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We were there at Christmas time, so we also saw the stalls selling all manner of things.Written January 8, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Eduardo YSao Paulo, SP212 contributionsThe tour allows you to enter the stadium and visit a temporary museum. Due to the renewal works, the dressing rooms were not open to the public.Written January 12, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mackenzie BCanada143 contributionsA great collection of art, good mix of modern and contemporary. The basement holds a number of installations of social justice related works which I love to see. Each room had a sheet to read the artist's statement and some background of the related issue, in Spanish or English. Upstairs held contemporary art, such as paintings by Picasso and Dali, including a huge piece by Picasso. Aside from those though, not too much more resonated with me.
This museum is huge and was really confusing getting around, directional signage is not good. Really accessible from the metro though. We did this museum last on the Golden Triangle of Art and by this museum I was exhausted so I wasn't able to enjoy it fully, nor finish the museum before closing.Written January 9, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Not many gluten-free options on tapas, but the paella and tortilla will do and are yummie. If you don't want to spend too much looking for food in Madrid this is an option. There nowhere to sit though.Written January 10, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Sinbad bamPittsburgh, PA71 contributionsthis is a good museum that walks through the history of civilization and humans from a spain perspective. great exhibits in Spanish and English. students get in free. otherwise it is 3 euros per person. we went at 10 am and it was not crowded which was great..crowd's picked up around noon. worth 2 or 3 hrs for a visit. probably not great for young kidsWritten January 3, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - pconlTarragona, Spain56 contributionsIt's certainly interesting to have a look around a genuine Egyptian Temple and there are carvings and other details to appreciate. However it's worth only about 15 minutes inside.
When we arrived, there were about 40 people in front of us and it took just over an hour before we were admitted. Had we known that, we wouldn't have waited.
If there's no more than a dozen or so ahead and it's not too hot/cold, go for it. Otherwise, don't bother, is my advice.Written November 29, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The areas of Centro, Retiro, and Salamanca are bordering the square.
In the center of the square is a striking fountain with a statue of Cybele, the goddess of nature and fertility, seated in a chariot drawn by two lions.
The square was completed in 1782 during the reign of King Charles III. Lining the square, you can see many imposing buildings like the main post office Palacio de Comunicaciones and the central bank Banco de Espana.
Plaza de Cibeles is especially known as the place where players and supporters of the football club Real Madrid gather to celebrate championships.Written January 3, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. (I was delighted to give my $3 Euro as a gift to upkeep and maintain the house.) It was a great experience overall and delighted I came. The staff were kind, friendly, and informative. - Christian MCopenhagen, Denmark3,745 contributionsPuerta del Sol (Gate of the Sun) is one of Madrid’s most important and busiest squares.
Hundreds of years ago couriers from all of Spain met here to give and collect news.
Puerta del Sol is also the starting point (km 0) of the Spanish road network.
