Dale Rees-Bevan

When did you first start writing?
I've been writing since primary school when I took it upon myself to write short stories to entertain my classmates. This book, however, is my first "how to" book and I began it 3 years prior to publication, when I realised that it would be a useful resource both for course participants and those who couldn't attend my courses.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I wanted to provide a useful blueprint for anyone struggling to put together a presentation, as well as ideas to keep presentations fresh for those already speaking regularly.

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I discovered how much I love cooking. About 4 years ago, I lost 30lbs and cooking my own food helped quite a bit. I discovered plenty of wonderful recipes online and try them out. If modifications are needed, I'll do it.

I also like watching sitcoms, from the original Honeymooners to the Blackish (and any in between). Right not Married with Children is my absolute favorite.

When it comes to movies, horror is my genre. I've discovered film-noir movies from 30s, 40s, and 50s to be awesome! I'm DO NOT like all the superhero movies coming out. I never read those comic books as a kid.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
It's a combination of the cover and the blurb. I'm forcing myself to read outside my genre, but I find it difficult.

How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords is an excellent way to get my work out there for my readers to read. It is also very easy to navigate the site and allow readers to find their authors or books that they are craving.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
This is a tough question but I think for me, my biggest joy of writing is watching the characters and worlds come to life in front of my eyes. They start taking shape on their own and form their own personalities.

Neslihan Stamboli

How did it all start, the storytelling?
I won’t start with the famous refrain, “I always wanted to be a writer.” But I can say that I always looked for a way to express myself.

Sandor Marai - a renowned Hungarian writer - once said that, “an artist is merely the personal embodiment of the creative genius that drives him. He has no will of his own, for his genius will press a pen, a chisel, a brush, or even, occasionally, a sword into his hand, whether he will or no.”

That driving force within me did in fact pressed a pen into my hand every now and then; I always scribbled something or other. However, it took me quite some time before I ventured into becoming a writer. I guess I needed to live a little before writing about life, know a few people before writing about the human heart. I had to get in touch with different cultures, if for no other purpose than understanding mine better. Eventually, there came a point when the things I accumulated along the way could no longer be contained. Everything poured out like a waterfall. It was no longer possible to ignore the desire to tell the stories dormant within me. In an inexplicable way, I somehow felt I had the responsibility to do so.
Yazarlık nasıl başladı?
Kendimi bildim bileli yazar olmak istiyordum, diyemeyeceğim.

Kendimi biraz, doğup büyüdüğüm İstanbul'a benzetirim.

What is your writing process?
Ideas come to me at the strangest time, and I have to write them down before my brain dumps them. My house has notebooks all over the place to accomodate my errant thinking machine.
I'm a paper and pencil writer, something about sitting in front of a computer screen just doesn't feel right. Too businesslike, I suppose.
As for the actual writing process, I have to confess to being a bit of a cheat. I create the characters and let them decide what they want to do. Nearly came unstuck with The Ninth Life though. It was supposed to be a mystery with a hint of the supernatural, but one of the characters turned into a violent serial killer, and I'm still wondering what happened. I think it's pretty good though, and that's what counts.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first story I ever read was an illustrated copy of Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Bronte. I was very young and remember being very scared by the hauntingly beautiful drawings, but the words had me entranced.
Words are still very important to me and I read constantly.

Jason Cosnett

When did you first start writing?
1984 - In one of my primary school classes, we were all required to write a story. I wrote three; a trilogy of space battles heavily influenced by X-Bomber/ Star Fleet which was my staple TV diet on a Saturday morning. So convinced was I that it would be the next best thing since Commander Makara decided to park her Imperial Alliance battlecruiser off the port side of Earth, I purposely brought a triplicate invoice book so as to make additional copies without having to hand-write the bloomin' thing twice over.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I don't think I could ever finish a proper novel so I stick with the short story genre. I try to make each one as different from any other as possible.
