Charged with indecency by morality police in the Sudan, despite having obtained a trouser-wearing permit from the authorities. They could face 40 lashes and a fine.

(Article is not about a trendy new pair of trousers that Sudanese women just gotta have.)

rubberbandrocks [score hidden]

TIL there are countries that issue permits to wear trousers

rubberbandrocks 1 point

They dropped the charges. so that's nice.

Bullshit. NK is in the position of needing all the nukes it can lay its hands on to fight Trump with, so it gives three of them away to somebody else?

rubberbandrocks [score hidden]

NK is not going to go to war. It would be a massive suicide. they are probably selling those nukes to buy food or exchanging them for food.

Jesus christ I wish I lived in a country where stabbings were a thing. Ive been so desensitized by gun violence in the US, that a stabbing is like, “meh. He lived. No harm no foul”. The world is in a bad place.

Why don't you move then?

But Netanyahu bombing villages and helping "settlers" kill innocent people is fine.

Yes, absolutely. He is the Prime Minister of Israel. That means he can do no wrong and is above International Law. He is allowed to criticize others for what he does himself.

rubberbandrocks 4 points

lol it is the most condemned country by far in the UN. Last year, it was condemned like 20 times while the entire rest of the world got 6 condemnations, combined.

Fucking absurd.

I want bitcoin to crash just so I can watch the mental gymnastics over at /r/bitcoin. Besides the underlying blockchain technology, Bitcoin is an utterly useless asset.

People over there want to say how Gold and Silver are useless, but at least we use them in semiconductors. And you can actually pick them up and hold them. And we have a millenia-long tradition as a species to use them as currency.

A completely digital asset which serves no purpose, would not function as fiat currency, is subject to a new hack every month, but is somehow worth $15k a unit? Let it pop.

rubberbandrocks [score hidden]

They would probably say that it is good for bitcoin to crash.

rubberbandrocks [score hidden]

Yes.

The futures offered by Cboe Global Markets Inc., and similar contracts that start trading in a week at at another Chicago-based exchange, CME Group Inc., may open the door to greater inflows of institutional money, while also making it easier to bet on bitcoin’s decline.

Can someone ELI5?

nliausacmmv 6 points

Futures are a way to speculate. Two people agree to trade some commodity at a price determined beforehand, at a future date.

So say I have 1 BTC at 17k right now (well, when I first wrote this that was right). I think it's going to crash and want to get rid of it. You think it's going to soar to 50k. So we make a deal; you agree that no matter what the market price is in a month, you'll buy my BTC a month from now for 25k (less than you think it'll be worth and more than I think it'll be worth). If, in a month, the price is above 25k, you win, because you're getting a discount (and I also win because you paid more for it than I did). If it's crashed, you've just paid 25k for something worthless (and I've won because I've dumped a worthless asset for 25k).

Options are the same thing, except you don't have to buy if you don't want to, so the margins are quite different since the risk for the seller is much higher.

There's also a thing where you can buy and sell futures to people who weren't part of the original deal, which is what most of the trade is.

“Mr Erdogan has attacked Israel. I‘m not used to receiving lectures about morality from a leader who bombs Kurdish villages in his native Turkey, who jails journalists, helps Iran go around international sanctions and who helps terrorists, including in Gaza, kill innocent people,” Netanyahu told reporters at a news conference with French President Emmanuel Macron.

What the fuck? You're literally trying to damage control the luggage boy from Moldova. Let's see how bad you dig yourself into this hole.

He didn't said all arabs. He said the arabs living in the Wadi region

So just the Arabs who's political opinion he doesn't agree with. That's fine.

told Army Radio that Arabs in the Wadi Ara region in northern Israel "are not part of us" and "do not belong to the State of Israel."

Also claiming literal citizens are not a part of the country because they disagree with the government. Once again, that's fine.

Those people are anti-Israel and extremists.

LoL. Biting your tongue so you don't call Israelis terrorists? That's adorable.

It would be like boycotting the white supremacists neighborhood in Charlottesville.

No. This is a fucking disgusting comparison. Miserable post.

rubberbandrocks 3 points

Nice misquoting you got there, buddy,

So just the Arabs who's political opinion he doesn't agree with. That's fine.

Yeah. There are some opinions that shouldn't be tolerated. If someone is a nazi, I'm completely fine with boycotting him. If these people wanted to see you death, why should you go and support them? That's a nonsense.

Also claiming literal citizens are not a part of the country because they disagree with the government. Once again, that's fine.

Yes, it is fine. It's completely okay to say that white supremacists or racists are not real americans.

LoL. Biting your tongue so you don't call Israelis terrorists? That's adorable.

lol, I condemn Israeli terrorists. But this has nothing to do with this thread. Nice whataboutism and strawman.

No. This is a fucking disgusting comparison. Miserable post.

No, it's a legit comparison. Both groups are extremists and should be condemned by all.

emasua -4 points

Nice misquoting you got there, buddy,

Didn't misquote anything, I see you're starting with false accusations. Classic.

Yeah. There are some opinions who shouldn't be tolerated. If someone is a nazi, I'm completely fine with boycotting him. If these people wanted to see you death, why should you go and support them? That's a nonsense.

No one in the Wadi is a Nazi, if the best thing you can do is compare people you don't like with Nazis, then you've lost this argument in your first post. Godwin's law 101

Yes, it is fine. It's completely okay to say that white supremacists or racists are not real americans.

Imagine not comparing everything to America... and actually white supremacists and racists have long held the most powerful political positions in American government for centuries.

lol, I condemn Israeli terrorists. But this has nothing to do with this thread.

What's the difference between an extremist and a terrorist?

rubberbandrocks 1 point

I never said they were. Another strawman. I just said that, like with nazis, extremisms should not be tolerated.

Imagine not comparing everything to America... and actually white supremacists and racists have long held the most powerful political positions in American government for centuries.

American values, like all values, changes through time. American values now is again racism and white supremacism.

What's the difference between an extremist and a terrorist?

A terrorist have committed a violent act but extremists doesn't necessarily have to commit one to be considered as one. In all cases a terrorist is an extremist but not all extremist are terrorists.

The irony is that the US is sending them billions of dollars every year. Countries like Tunisia, Lebanon, Egypt and Jordan are among those who receive financial aid.

rubberbandrocks 96 points

They will then scream about US imperialism and neocolonialism and chant death to America and Israel.

Heh, they already do all of this. Nevermind.
