Hey guys! I thought it would be helpful to make a VERY basic guide for those who are just starting out. This is a basic guide for at-home treatment of acne. This guide is a work in progress and is not by any means a comprehensive guide.

Please see a dermatologist if your acne does not improve with Over-The-Counter treatments.#

If you have cystic or hormonal acne, they tend to be pretty difficult to treat with topicals so you might want to see a dermatologist right away.

Basic skincare routine#

1. Get a gentle cleanser that does not break you out. There are drugstore brands such as CeraVe and Cetaphil that are easily accessible.

  • CeraVe Renewing SA Cleanser (contains salicylic acid)

  • Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser

2. Pat your skin dry with a clean towel.

3. Apply a toner (optional): There are toners containing Salicylic Acid (helps unclog pores which in turn helps prevent acne) or Glycolic Acid (helps exfoliate dead skin cells and also can help prevent acne).

Sorry I don’t have the pics to prove it, but my acne caused me a lot of anxiety and therefor I definitely have no pictures of it. I dropped out of school in jr high and stopped leaving my house because of it. Wouldn’t get close to people because of it. I would only go out if my makeup was done to perfection and it was dark outside or we were in a building with strictly dim yellow lighting. My whole life has revolved around my acne. But this fall I discovered tretinoin online and went to my doctor to ask for some. Within the first 48 hours my face had stopped producing new acne and within a few months every cyst was gone and all I’m left with are scars. I can’t believe all it took was one single cream that my insurance covers. No expensive face washes, toners, lotions, creams, masks or spot treatments. No birth control or diet changes. Just a simple medication every night. I’m mad as hell that no one ever told me about it before. So just in case someone who sees this hasn’t heard of tretinoin, look it up!
