- What does the auditor general DO? Auditor General Eugene DePasquale serves as an independent fiscal watchdog for Pennsylvania taxpayers. This means ensuring that all of the Commonwealth's money is spent legally and properly.
- What do you audit? We conduct thousands of audits each year, including school districts, charter and cyber charter schools, county row offices, municipal pension plans, volunteer firefighter relief associations, special state funds, liquor stores, state correctional facilities, liquid fuels funds and other audits of state funds required by legislation.
- Does the auditor general conduct performance audits? Yes. Performance audits allow the auditor general to evaluate if state funds are used properly. Special audits, including performance audits, may be conducted when the auditor general determines they are necessary to ensure government accountability. These audits are based on objective criteria that provide independent assessments of the performance, administration, and management of government programs. The findings and recommendations are intended to improve program operations and contribute to public accountability.
