Cataloging FCC Filings
This page contains filings submitted to the Federal Communications Commission by broadcasters around the country. Most radio, TV, satellite and cable providers are required to submit a "political file" to the FCC. The documents they contain allow the public to track each station's contracts, correspondence and other filings as they pertain to the candidates, super PACs, dark money groups and other organizations running political and issue ads. CRP is now downloading, parsing, and updating this data on a daily basis and will begin to make parts of it available as time and resources permit.

This heatmap uses FCC station data to show the top 50 zipcodes covered by ad filings submitted to stations around the country over the last 60 days or so. A high number of filings tends to indicate significantly more activity by outside groups, even though each filing doesn't necessarily represent a unique ad.
