Frequently asked questions
What is hospice?
Hospice services are medical treatments focused on managing pain and symptoms in those with advanced illness. Emotional and spiritual support are also offered to the patient and family (if desired).
When should I start thinking about seeking hospice services?
Hospice care is not only for the last few days of life. In fact, people with advanced illness can benefit most when they have hospice for the final months of life. Most people choose to receive hospice services when their physician thinks curative treatments are no longer working, or when they have six months or less to live. Studies have found that many people live longer with hospice and palliative care and that people receiving hospice care reported a higher quality of life.
