Some say its rule was just - as it provided its subjects the famous Map-Reduce grep, which helped them find needles in their haystacks. However, others continued to endure while cussing quietly to themselves, building elaborate bash scripts and pretending everything is alright. But a few brave Wazers prevailed and formed an alliance! After witnessing the endless possibilities of Apache Spark™ + Python combined, they sought to spread the light among their peers, thus finally bringing order to the Galaxy! _________________________________________________ Preventing Incarceration through Prioritizing Mental Health Outreach - Iris Kalka Untreated mental health conditions often result in a negative spiral, which can culminate in repeated jail bookings. This has long term consequences both for the affected individual and the community as a whole. This past summer, "Data Science for Social Good" partnered with Johnson County to predict subsequent jail bookings with the goal of prioritizing mental health outreach. Our work provides a computational framework and prototype system for many jurisdictions to proactively connect social and mental health workers with individuals in need of care to avoid incarceration. About the speaker: Iris is a data scientist and a computational biologist who believes wholeheartedly in the power of data science in bettering communities. She is an M.Sc. graduate from the Weizmann Institute of Science, who recently spent her summer in Chicago as a Data Science for Social Good Fellow. _________________________________________________ Diving into Pandas is faster than reinventing it - Dean Langsam Pandas is constantly evolving and adding more functionality, yet somehow, we tend to reinvent the wheel each time we face a task. Modern Pandas has a lot functionality that is just waiting for you to use. If you think your task is common enough, it probably is, and Pandas probably has a solution. About the speaker: I am a data scientist at BlueVine interested in data-science, machine learning, deep learning, Python scientific programming, data visualizations, and Bayesian modelling. Before my current position, I was working on complex, dynamic, health systems, finding optimal vaccination allocation for disease in Israel, and I was researching large social networks for social influencer marketing. _________________________________________________ ***PLEASE NOTE: register for the event at https://goo.gl/DUcpdS ***

What we're about

PyData brings together data scientists and developers to share ideas and learn from each other. The goals are to provide data science enthusiasts, across various domains, a place to discuss how best to apply languages and tools to the challenges of data management, processing, analytics, and visualization.

PyData Tel Aviv will start with a series of meetups and continue with a PyData conference.

Each meetup will include a few lectures from industry experts in various practical data science fields.

We aim to be an accessible, community-driven conference, with novice to advanced level presentations.

PyData tutorials and talks bring attendees the latest project features along with cutting-edge use cases.
