About meI'll read a Pony Club Manual if there's nothing else. When I am not reading or writing I'm striding the woods with my dog or playing Irish music on harp and concertina (at the same time, naturally, I'm very talented).

About my libraryRated books might not be in my physical library. Unrated books likely ARE in my house. The Spousal Unit has a lot of art, architecture and design books, listed because I am sure I am acquiring their contents by osmosis.

I used to finish even bad books, but nowadays less than a three-star read, I'm done.

Books are rated in two different ways: Pure enjoyment and literary merit. Point being that the stars can mean one or the other . . . in genre reads I tend toward enjoyment, literature tends more toward merit.

Fours are generally agreed upon as 'good' books by all and sundry. Some fours have a 'worthy' aspect to them, enlightening but not totally engaging. Others just lack in one little way.
A five is tricky. It is the most personal response to my enjoyment/appreciation of the book as a reader. Some, like [Ulysses], [Mrs. Dalloway] are obvious fives, but I wouldn't rate even a classic a five unless I was also engaged at some much deeper level, as in, totally blown away by it throughout. The four to four and 1/2 would indicate appreciation but not that total absorption, life-changing etc.. The further caveat is that some 5 books, particularly in genres, are books that I simply had a blast reading, couldn't put down.
