Dylan Thomas has 5 past events. (show) Dylan Thomas Exhibition, 28 June-20 December 2014. As part of DylanThomas100, the year-long celebration of the birth of Dylan Thomas, the Library will stage a major multi-media exhibition in conjunction with a series of newly commissioned showcase events. The exhibition will run across several of the Library’s gallery spaces and will provide a unique opportunity to celebrate the life and work of this iconic Welsh literary figure. Visitors will experience an extraordinary insight into Dylan's world of poetry, stories, plays and extensive musings, guided by Dylan himself. This multimedia exhibition will include never before exhibited manuscripts from the Library’s collection, as well as items on loan from the United States, and interactive experiences for all ages.
A concurrent online exhibition is available at http://dylan.llgc.org.uk/
Throughout the year, partnerships with the dancer Eddie Ladd; Cwmni Theatr Arad Goch; the poet Damien Walford Davies and visual artists Pete Finnemore and Russell Roberts, will give a fresh perspective on Dylan’s prose and poetry, on the Laugharne Boathouse and Caitlin Thomas.
A public symposium, held at the Library on 5-6 December 2014, will be a fitting finale to our year-long activities and will include a showing of Andrew Sinclair’s 1972 film adaption of Under Milk Wood and an interview between the director and Damian Walford Davies, as well as a number of guest speakers lecturing on a range of topics themed around the study of Dylan Thomas and his work. Free admission. (Cynfelyn)… (more)
My life with Dylan Thomas Dinner time presentation by poet Tony Curtis. An entertaining account of growing up in Carmarthen, overlapping with Dylan Thomas's last years. Under Milk Wood Under Milk Wood By Dylan Thomas October 11 at 4 PM Through the magic of the written word, we are going to transform our quaint little Alaskan farming town into a quaint little Welsh fishing village. Come to Fireside Books to hear an informal dramatic reading of Dylan Thomas's masterpiece, " Under Milk Wood." This musical poem-play imagines one spring day in the town of Larreggub, with all sorts of characters and foibles. It's sad, funny, and a little bawdy, but the play of language will keep you captivated the whole time.
Fireside Books is presenting this dramatic reading as part of the Second Saturday Art Walk in Downtown Palmer. All month we are celebrating the 100th birthday of Dylan Thomas, who was born October 27, 1914.
The readers are:
Debra Bohm David Cheezem Gregory Gusse Sally Hitchcock Grant Olson Jaime Rodriguez
This is a free event, presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, LTD.
Seating is limited.
Please note: We will be moving some shelves around, starting at 3 PM. Some sections may not be accessible for browsing after 3.

Dylan Thomas Pop-Up Writing Shed The Dylan Thomas 'Pop-Up Writing Shed' will visit NLW 28-30 August (the bank holiday weekend), and will park at the front of the building. This shed is a replica of Dylan Thomas’ iconic writing shed in Laugharne and will be on tour throughout 2014 as part of the centenary of his birth. Be prepared to see the shed 'poping up' in all kinds of places across Wales.
In order to acknowledge Dylan Thomas's love of words, visitors are busy compiling a dictionary of fresh new words. Visitors are encouraged to be playful, rhythmic, onomatopoeic and brave! This is the perfect opportunity to invent your perfect word and to see it published in a 'Dictionary for Dylan'. Emily Hinshelwood, the shed's writer in residence, will be tweeting and blogging these words of the week; she will also be running short workshops from the shed. (Cynfelyn)… (more)
