The IDF has announced the deaths of two reserve soldiers who were killed after an explosive device detonated during an operation in the southern Lebanon town of Majdal Zoun yesterday. The fallen soldiers have been identified as Maj. (res.) Harel Birenstock, 34, a company commander from Nokdim, and Sgt. Maj. (res.) Tamir Vaknin, 33, from Eilat. Both served with the 2855th Battalion of the 55th Paratroopers Brigade. According to the IDF's initial investigation, the incident occurred around midday as reserve troops entered a building in Majdal Zoun while operating to destroy Hezbollah infrastructure. An explosive device detonated as the forces entered the structure, killing the two soldiers and seriously wounding four others. The IDF says the wounded troops were evacuated to hospital for treatment and their families have been notified. Following the explosion, the military carried out strikes on Hezbollah targets in the area.
