Hi, you're not able to see how many votes you have received in a contest. Contests generally work like this:After a contest is closed it remains open to voting for a few days, it then goes to judging and the finalists are revealed. The final winners positions are then revealed.Find the contest(s) you entered here to check what the status is and see the winners (if you are a finalist / winner, you will receive usually an e-mail notification): https://www.instructables.com/contest/

- ThirdEarthDesign commented on somedumbguy1274's forum topic Speeder 1 month agoView Topic »
What's your plan for getting lift? Hovering like a hovercraft (with a flexible skirt around the bottom) or are you thinking of hovering like a quadcopter with rotors? Or are you thinking of something more integrated where the movement and the lift is from the same power unit, truly replicating thrust vectoring.Don't forget that you also need to factor in the weight of the motor/engine, any fuel tanks or batteries, things will really start to add up, you'll be needing even more power! Without giving it too much thought the first thing that came to my mind was a jet engine, would sound quite like a speeder as well :p
- ThirdEarthDesign commented on spyder2021's forum topic We need a "Like" button1 month agoView Topic »
Everyone will have their own opinion on this, but personally I don't feel the need for a 'Like' button, I find the concept rather meaningless. Facebook uses the 'Like' feature as part of its monetizing business model, it's also another way of harvesting data, so not for me!I'll admit that I can see why the idea has some merit, I'm just not convinced it's necessary. When I posted my Pokeball project on Facebook I got a couple of hundred likes in the first week or so, but the 10 or so comments I got here on Instructables meant so much more! Likes are handed out like confetti, hence why they are meaningless. If I truly like something I will post a comment saying as much, maybe I'm old school in my thinking, but I prefer the personal touch.

- ThirdEarthDesign commented on KentG13's forum topic Someone stole my idea for a contest2 months agoView Topic »
I can understand your frustration, I'd be annoyed if one of my ideas had been stolen. But even if we are to assume that they based their design on yours, unless you have some sort of patent protecting your design, their only 'crime' would be a lack of common courtesy in not crediting you.And while there are some striking similarities, you also need to consider the possibility that the whole thing could be an innocent coincidence, no matter how unlikely you think that might be.I would guess that nothing can be done, we'll probably never know the absolute truth, this may be one that has to be taken on the chin.

You'll only be able to digitize your CD collection as quickly as you can physically swap the discs. How long the digitizing process itself takes will depend on the the runtime of each CD, the read speed of the CD drive and the speed of the processor doing the encoding.

View Instructable »I got round to making mine, I'm pretty pleased with it. Will look great as part of my Halloween display this year.I made a few tweaks/changes... I lined the internal fins with foil and it seemed to work out quite well. I also managed to use a cable with an angled Micro-USB plug to connect to the USB port so I can power it and re-program it easily. I also modified the code to fade in and out of transitions.

I quite like the idea that I'bles entered into contests can't be deleted. In a way it helps to maintain the integrity of the contest by keeping the content available. The contest archive goes back almost ten years and people may wish to look at past winners. My suggestion would be to edit the I'bles in question and improve the standard until you are happy with them :-)

- ThirdEarthDesign commented on redmarien's forum topic Difference between all the X,Y and Z axes?3 months ago
Things can get a little confusing when it comes to CNC and axis as it goes against what I was always taught in math. I've tried to explain the commonly used CNC axis labels below:Z = vertical axisX and Y = 2-axis on the horizontal planeI've attached some images to better illustrate.
View Topic »Ultimately the axis can be defined as whatever you want, depending on the parameters in the software/code. But the examples I've provided are the most common usage.

- ThirdEarthDesign commented on Kathmandu365's forum topic DIY Costume Mute Rainbow 6 siege3 months agoView Topic »
For the gas mask I'd consider a respirator, the kind used by painters and builders, usually available from DIY hardware stores. You may not find one in the right colour but you can always paint it black. Another option is to make one from scratch out of paper mache. A bit of duct tape cut to the right size will add the X to the front. For the tactical vest, how's your sewing? I'd take two regular vests and sew them together, but line the inside with a stiffer material to create a bullet proof vest feel/thickness. Sew some velcro straps over the shoulders. Cut the middle of the vest and add the zip. For the detail (such as the pouches) find some old fabric glasses cases, camera cases, phone cases, binocular cases etc. Ideally get black ones, or paint or dye black. I'd check charity shops,...

- ThirdEarthDesign commented on Raitis's forum topic Suggestion: Notes section in editor4 months agoView Topic »
I generally pull up notepad on the computer and save the notes to a TXT file. I also use a standardized folder structure whenever I work on a project, all my resources, notes, images, code, STL files etc. get put there so I can find them again later.I can see some merit in your suggestion though, but different people work in different ways.
- ThirdEarthDesign commented on jade7272's forum topic Why can't I add my In distructabe to a contest 4 months agoView Topic »
Unfortunately it looks like it may not be eligible for the Solar Contest as your Instructable was published before the contest was open for entries.Your I'ble was published on the 13th of August, but the contest didn't open for entries until Monday the 14th.Also I think the contest opening and closing times are on Pacific Time, so something else to keep in mind.
- ThirdEarthDesign commented on ATPinQuebec's forum topic Natural Elimination/Move of Bees in House Walls4 months agoView Topic »
Contact a bee keeper, they would usually do this for free, but access to the hive might pose a problem if it's within the walls and difficult to reach. Either way an experienced bee keeper can tell you what your best options are.
- ThirdEarthDesign commented on scubascooby's forum topic USB to ps/2 keyboard adapter4 months ago
The USB to to PS2 adapters will not support wireless USB. The keyboard/mouse combos will only work with some adapters (they will usually have two PS2 connectors, green (mouse) and purple (keyboard)).
View Topic »These do work in a lot of cases, but some of the newer USB keyboards and mice won't work with these and require an active adapter/converter.
- ThirdEarthDesign commented on ThirdEarthDesign's instructable Star Wars Thermal Detonator 3d Printed4 months ago
View Instructable »That means the code is ok, it's probably worth re-programming the chip just to make sure everything is hunky dory and there are no errors, you should get a clear indication that the program downloaded to the PICAXE successfully. Now it's just about the circuit, make sure the 100nf cap is in the right place and double check your resistors are the correct values.
- ThirdEarthDesign commented on ThirdEarthDesign's instructable Star Wars Thermal Detonator 3d Printed4 months ago

Everything else looks ok as far as I can tell. I can't quite see the colour bands on the resistors to check their values though, so make sure you are using the correct ones. If in doubt you can use this resistor colour code calculator. With regards to the simulation in the PICAXE software, copy and paste the code into the Editor, then do the following (I've included a screenshot to illustrate):-1. Click the 'Simulate' tab.2. Click the 'Run' button (if it produces an error, check you copied the code correctly).3. As the code simulation runs, it will highlight the active code line in yellow.4. The pins of the PICAXE chip will change colour to indicate their status, the green indicates output. This represents the LED switching on.
View Instructable »First thing you can check is that the code works when you simulate it in the PICAXE Editor. The code I've provided should work on all versions of the 8-pin PICAXE chip. The next thing is to check your circuit. If you're new to PICAXE check out their Getting Started guides, they're really helpful. The 100nf cap is a decoupling capacitor and all ICs should have one. It suppresses high-frequency noise in power supply signals, it basically protects the PICAXE chip. This capacitor should connect between the power source (V+) and ground (V-) as close to the PICAXE power pins as possible. The attached image shows its ideal location on your breadboard.
