Striving for Light |
| I have always taken great inspiration from the prophetic prayer beseeching the Creator to make us a source of Divine Light. I know these last few days have felt a little darker for many of us. Changing the City for the Better |
| Chicago Ideas Week recently named IMAN as one of “7 Chicago-Based Orgs Changing the City for the Better”. We were recognized for taking “the Muslim tradition of facilitating transformational change in urban communities and applying it to some of Chicago’s most vulnerable areas.” Our Community Health Center, transitional housing and job training for incarcerated men and local community arts programs were all featured. Fresh Beats & Eats Concludes 2nd Year |
| After several months of spring and summer fun, IMAN’s weekly farmers market—Fresh Beats & Eats—ended its second year with a robust closing event. Nearly 100 community members visited the market on October 21, enjoying an extended live music performance by the Tubad & The Nation, an expanded lineup of some of Chicago’s freshest food vendors, and free gift bags stocked with healthy groceries. Senator Durbin Visits Marquette Park, MLK Memorial |
| On Tuesday, October 18th, U.S. Senator Dick Durbin joined Marquette Park residents and local leaders for a day of healing-focused dialogue, celebration of new cultural landmarks and recognition of long-standing neighborhood institutions. Following a community conversation, Sen. Durbin toured the MLK Living Memorial with IMAN staff and various members of the Local Task Force that helped make the memorial a success. Read More |
