Who Are We?

Green Course is an activist field organization that works with the goal of promoting a just and sustainable environmental climate policy. We are working to influence decision makers, and expand the circles of environmental and social justice in Israel. Green Course works to prevent state authorities, corporations and humans from harming natural resources and all the systems that support the continuity and proper functioning of society and the natural environment. We are working to curb the climate crisis, and to deal with the effects we are experiencing and will experience in the future. At the same time, we are working against the injustices affecting our environment and our lives in it.

We are Green Course, hundreds of volunteers, students and young people, who believe in active and participatory civic involvement, in taking personal responsibility for shaping the face of society and the environment. We have the power to change the face of reality. The organization’s activities take place on campuses and in the communities in which we operate across the country.

Green Course is a non-profit, non-partisan association, which is supported by donations from the general public and foundations. You can read more about this on our GuideStar page, and on the Financial Reports page.

Basic Values and Methods of Action

The environmental and social crisis we are in is the result of a predatory economic and political system. We believe that in order to deal with and change the environmental policy in Israel, it is necessary to get to the root of the problems, work to correct them and not be satisfied only with what is politically possible in the current reality.

We believe that all elements of the environment have the right to live and thrive and that there is a close connection between environmental and climate justice, and social justice. In our view, environmental justice is a goal to be achieved for all population groups; All human beings, regardless of their origin, culture or income, should enjoy the same degree of protection against environmental risks, and the possibility to take part in the decision-making processes of the country, as equal partners.

The road to environmental-climate-social justice begins with organization in the community. The source of our strength is the development of democratic, participatory and transparent leadership. In our eyes, leadership is that which develops new leaders – not fans. Our activists are not only the source of our strength, but also the source from which our struggles and methods of action arise.

We operate in the public space in a variety of ways and activist pursuits, including direct non-violent actions, with the aim of preventing social-environmental injustices. Through this and through our community, we create maximum public resonance which harnesses the public to us and helps create a just and sustainable agenda in Israel. Green Course advocates broad collaborations with social and environmental organizations, at regional and global levels, with emphasis on the communities in which we operate.

We undertake to act without bias, with the good of the environment and society always at the forefront. With our work, we take part in shaping a society, an economy, and a culture where all human beings can fulfill their needs and realize their utmost potential, while maintaining an ecological system and social systems for generations to come.
