Summer Unscripted was a YA contemporary romance with some great positives and a few drawbacks. On the plus side, main character Rainie showed a lot of character growth. At the start of the book, she's a bit flaky. She's schemed her way into a summer theater company as a way to get closer to a guy she's suddenly crushing on, and uses a former friend to help her. Cute story (and I definitely had a little crush on Milo). It's definitely fun to read about theater and a theater production, as well as seeing what happens to Raine over the course of her summer. But it's no Shuffle, Repeat, that's for sure!
There is A LOT to love about this book (not the least of which being that now I know I’m not the only one to wonder about the logistics of a human woman having sex with a swan), but I’ll start with:

First, I love the concept of the girl not getting the guy that everyone loves but getting someone else. Second of all, I love how relatable Rainie is in the struggle she has finding her identity and the boy she really likes. Sure, at some points, she felt like a spoiled brat, but she redeemed herself with the chemistry between her and Milo and the ambition she has. Well, I was and still in love with Shuffle, Repeat so........
I have a thing about love triangles. I really don't like them therefore it is probably the reason why I wasn't completely sold with this book.
The heroine's path to self-discovery wasn't really established. I mean, she is the go with the flow kind of girl...I really failed to see in the book the part where she get to conquer her fears...I mean not just relationship wise but in all aspects.

I really liked the author's previous ya contemp, but this was not nearly as good.. pretty limited characterization, an alarmingly unlikeable and depth-less MC, and not enough cute banter to make it all worth it :/

Rainie’s directionless, so when an actor boy expresses a possible interest in her, she decides to follow his lead and join a summer theater troupe even though she’s had no interest in theater before, she just figures this guy might be an answer to how lost she feels, which, obviously, is not the best idea.

I started reading this book with the thoughts that this book would be cliché and that it would be a fun and quick read. I love reading books with a summer vibes to it but this book didn't have one. And as much as the cover has the summer vibes, the story didn't. But it the book was fun to read though. It took me over a month to finish because I was out and about during the summer break.

I straight up loved Jen Klein's "Shuffle, Repeat", so I had really high expectations for this book, probably too high because it ended up being just OK for me. The story is cute, there are lots of swoony moments, and I reasonably liked the characters. There just wasn't a lot about it that was memorable for me and it's not one I'll go back to an reread. I'll still read whatever Klein writes next, because I do like her storytelling.
Rainie isn't really into anything but when she hears hot guy Tuck at school give a speech she is hooked on Tuck. She follows him to work a summer job so she can be around him thinking he is into her. She gets there and Tuck already has a girlfriend. Rainie ends up falling in love with a different boy and there is a bunch of drama. There is a happy ending to this book and its good.
Quick summer read. I didn't like it nearly as much as Shuffle, Repeat. Rainie isn't always like-able (though I totally related to her need for space/solitude in her situation) and I don't think she actually learns anything. Still, easy reading for the beach or pool-side.
The MC was kind of a hot mess and I loved it lol.

This is certainly a good teen read for the summer complete with summer love. I think the main character really reflects the thoughts that we all had in our teen years.
The author signed this book when she sent it to me which was a lovely gesture and much appreciated.
I would recommend this book to teen girls in the 14-16 age range.

This book was adorable...it was fun, quick, and I fell in love with Milo. Rainie and I didn't quite get along until closer to the end of the book, thus the rating...but don't even get me started on Milo...sigh...
Any fan of summer romance will fall in love with this book!
