Sasha Stone knows her place—first-chair clarinet, top of her class, and at the side of her oxford-wearing boyfriend. She’s worked her entire life to ensure that her path to Oberlin Conservatory as a star musician is perfectly paved.

But suddenly there’s a fork in the road, in the shape of Isaac Harver. Her body shifts toward him when he walks by, her skin misses his touch e

"I am Sasha Stone, a name that used to mean something, a girl who got what she wanted, a force to be reckoned with."

Y'all. It's been TWO days since I've read this and my mind is still like "What did I read?" I'm still ultra Confused and I'm questioning life. It was so twisted and disturbing but also thought provoking and awesome. Did that make sense? No. But that's how I feel ahahah. And originally it was five stars because I was just so BLOWN away that I couldn't rate it anything less. But the

This was one of the weirdest books I've ever read, but I highly enjoyed it. The writing was dark, sexy and scary. And it featured one of the most messed up main characters I've ever read. Mindy McGinnis never fails to surprise and shock me.

One word to describe this book?

    Fucked.

I have never been both utterly disturbed and confused when reading a book. This Darkness Mine manages to successfully do this, however. I was stunned. Completely stunned into silence. I started to get really into this book while I was waiting at the train station to pick up Caitlin, and I'm pretty sure everyone i

I'm going to have to step away and gather my thoughts before I write a proper review, because this book blew my mind and I'm still looking for the pieces.

In short, Mindy is yet to disappoint me. This is probably my favorite book of hers by far, and I love how thickly dark it was, even though it didn't seem like it was going to be at first, you know? It's such a twisted, complex story. I loved it!

All jokes aside-this book is twisted, scary and unputdownable. I didn't see coming a lot of things. Mindy's first thriller, The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis is not as hardcore as this book. I read it in one sitting.

    Mentally prepare yourself for insanity.

I loved The Female of the Species, so when I heard the announcement for her new book, I was super excited. Then I saw the blurb, and I was absolutely hooked. It sounded creepy, romantic and super twisty. AKA, definitely up my alley. I was so excited that I chose this as my first book to read post-ALA.

Let me tell you, this book completely rocked my world. If you loved Mara Dyer, then you'll love this too.

This is a case of where my expectations were *not* met, but I loved the way the author execut

This was definitely one of the weirdest books I've ever read. Good but weird. The MC is quite unhinged and it was interesting to read her story. Definitely one of those books to read when you're in the mood for something super dark and thriller-like

Another excellent read from the dark mind of Mindy McGinnis. This book was full of twists and turns, definitely not predictable. In This Darkness Mine Mindy has created quirky but real characters, and her wit shows through in their conversations. A darkly fantastic book.

This sounds incredibly messed up. I want it.

I'm torn about how I feel about this book. Am I disappointed in the actual plot, pacing and writing of this book or am I disappointed that it doesn't compare to Female of the Species? McGinnis has written another dark and twisty story that brings up several interesting discussion areas. How much pressure is too much? Should mental illness disqualify a person from the organ transplant list? Are people irredeemable? Unlike Female, I feel many of the secondary characters are flat and static and hav ...more

This storyline was definitely not what I was expecting. It is basically a Black Swan retelling featuring perfectionist Sasha Stone, her passion for the clarinet, and the underlying connection between her and her twin sister whom she absorbed in the womb. Sasha is depicted as the valedictorian at her school and devotes all her time to playing the clarinet so she can go to the college of her dreams, but this all is told and not shown. A few examples would have been nice instead of automatically be ...more

Whatever expectations you have of this book, set them aside. This book is more than anything you could imagine. McGinnis writes with witty sarcasm that is both relatable and hilarious. Anyone who read and thoroughly enjoyed Female of the Species will also love this similarly twisted and sadistic novel. What starts off as a classic high school realistic fiction novel quickly dives into a scary mental health nightmare.

I really loved Female of the Species and was very anxious to get a hold of McGinnis' new book. There are some similarities in the personalities of the protagonists and they are both characters that push things beyond what "normal" people would. Sasha is a good girl. She has first chair in the band, she's on track to graduate as valedictorian, her boyfriend is a straight arrow, but she doesn't feel anything. She develops a theory that her heart is not her own, and from there Sasha's life spins ou ...more

It's hard for me to say that this was my least favourite of the Mindy McGinnis books that I've read because I did really enjoy it. It's more that the other ones I read blew me away and this one didn't quite live up to them. It still had the dark tone, twists, and great characters that I've come to expect from her, and I can't say that I was disappointed in it, I just didn't like it as much as her other books. Still liked it though.

Sasha was a very interesting character. She could definitely be d

WHAT DID I JUST READ?! And I mean that in the best way possible. This Darkness Mine hooked me from the first line. I was immediately intrigued and never bored. I only took off half a star because it felt a little long (especially in the middle) but it worked.

This Darkness Mine is a very dark and depressing novel. Sasha has everything going for her until she doesn't. One minute she's first chair clarinet, soon to be class valedictorian, and the next she is a terminally ill heart patient waiting for a donor. She knows, however, that the heart transplant will kill her twin sister Shanna, whom she absorbed in utero. I read this as an early reader for Edelweiss in exchange for a fair and honest review.
