I want to start off by saying that I have enjoyed Carmine's for many many years. The food is always on point and the service is courteous and attentive. Tonight, my son and I enjoyed a delicious Chicken Scaloppine w/ Lemon & Butter with spaghetti dinner. My dinner companion is an excellent conversationalist so I was really enjoying myself. Our table is cleared and then the evening sort of turned.

The gentleman dropped off the check and informed me that if I was paying with ...a credit card I would need to show him ID. I won't deny that I was somewhat thrown, I have been going to Carmine's for years and have never been asked to present ID. I watched him go to another table and take a credit card, I didn't see her show him ID but I can't swear that she didn't show it to him before because I wasn't paying close attention. But my gut says no. When he picked up my check I asked him why he needed to see my ID and pointed out that I have never been asked to show ID before. He claimed that they have had a lot of fraud recently and he was the last line of defense. Hhhhmmm..... At that point, I wanted to get out of there so I showed him my driver's license. He said "Yep, that's you" and ran my card. For the first time ever, I left Carmine's with an upset stomach.
