About
Fashion history through sewing patterns.
PatternVault grew out of my passion for designer sewing patterns and ephemera. I have a humanities Ph.D., so I take pride in researching all the details of the vintage patterns and ephemera in my shop. For discussion of vintage sewing and fashion history check out the PatternVault blog -- recently featured in Vogue Patterns magazine.
I learned to sew from my mother. When I was young, she and my aunt, who was a professional dressmaker, sold the traditional parkas my aunt learned to make up North in what is now Nunavut. I have the garment business on my father's side as well: my paternal grandmother worked as a Spencer Corsetiere to support her young family. I gravitate toward ambitious projects, which sometimes means they hang around the apartment longer than they should.
I'm located in the Toronto neighbourhood of Parkdale, where the Victorian storefronts and converted factories inspire with their vintage textures and indie spirit.

Shop policies
As a collector of fashion ephemera myself, I strive to give the same honest and detailed descriptions that I like to see when shopping for vintage items.
Please feel free to convo me with any questions about the items in my shop.
For the best idea of an item's condition, all listing images should be enlarged using Etsy's "zoom" feature. Please note that the first listing image may have been edited, reused, or scanned from promotional material for the best possible thumbnail image. The other images are direct scans, adjusted only for accuracy of colour/exposure.

Shipping
I don't like overpaying for shipping... Excess shipping charges of $1 or more will be refunded to the buyer. (Note: Shipping cost shown on the postage sticker does not include taxes charged on postage of under $5 by Canada Post.)
International buyers: Please note that buyers are responsible for all duties and customs charges. I mark the Etsy selling price on the customs form. Whenever possible, more valuable parcels are sent via Canada Post's insured and trackable service.
*** A note about shipping time: A minimum of 2 weeks' transit time can be expected for international orders sent by the standard method. Cross-border shipments may occasionally be delayed at the border by international customs. If you require your order in under 2 weeks, please contact me for an express shipping quote and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
Refunds and Exchanges
If there are any problems with your purchase, please contact me so I can make it right.
