2015 07 29 - Coface posts a profit of EUR 66 million in spite of an increase in claims in emerging countries

Since the end of last year, on the occasion of our periodic results publications, we have noted weaknesses affecting the macro-economic environment. The first half of this year confirms this trend, and it was marked by an increase in the frequency of claims, in particular in emerging markets.

Given this context, we are publishing good quality half-year results. The Group thus confirms the ro-bustness of its business model: product innovation and multi-channel distribution, while controlling risks and costs.

Our performance reflects a stark contrast between mature credit insurance markets - where risk is low and competitive pressures are driving down revenue - and emerging markets where risk is high, particularly in the commodities sector. Though the positive impacts of measures taken to reduce our risk exposure in Latin America over the last year are already materializing, it is too early to see the full effects of risk initiatives launched in Asia at the end of last year; these will translate progressively into our results. Given the volatile global economic environment, we remain cautious for 2016.
